Similarly there are always a large of military leaders or violent criminals among a given aristocracy. Japanese Samurai and European Knights are good examples, which were "elites" of their time. To a lesser extent, the Centurians in Rome were basically the upper-middle class. Softness among the elites has always existed in varying ranges but is way more prevalent in modern times I'd say.
