In the not-too-distant future, when large numbers of people spend most of their waking (and sleeping) hours fully immersed in high-fidelity AI-generated virtual worlds via direct brain interfaces, society will still need a small number of "awake" guardians operating in baseline physical reality.
Can YOU be a trusted guardian?
>>532591344yes ;^)
>>532591344Sure, I won't go around impregnating the vegetables.
>>532591344I would kill everyone
>>532591344yes. if i'm allowed to go around and do things and see things in the real world that i was never able to before because i'm poor. really a lot of people would be willing to stay out of the virtual worlds if their real lives were more fulfilling.
>>532591189why would vr tards be allowed to live?they would be huge net drain on the economyyou thin AI and robotics will lead to a post scarcity civilization and the 1% will really let everyone control enough wealth to retreat into their own custom universe?
I think people won't be physically alseep they will be just under illusions, the brain interfaces will override what they see, smell and feel. So they will live in post apo shitholes but think it's a paradise, they will eat slop but think they eat natural michellin star meals, kinda like in that book congress of futurologists or that zero hp lovecraft story. Now that I think about it, it's already a reality, they will just perfect it.
>>532591189>society will still need a small number of "awake" guardians operating in baseline physical reality. Why did I remember this particular shot...
>>532591189Born sick due to lupus and confined to my bed for 20+ years in horrific pain feeling the sickness creeping into my bones now... yeah, I will 100% submerge and never come back. My virtual moo body waiting for me to wake up to an infinite future of infinite complexity... I think I'll spend a few thousand years living in a snowy 1990s era gleaming Japanese metropolis on a snowy mountain summit. It will always be night and always Christmas and hot coco will be infinite.
>>532592748No, I don't think we'll get a clean "post-scarcity civilization" where the 1% just hands everyone the keys to their own custom universe. It's a beautiful sci-fi vision—AI/robots churning out everything from food to fusion power, marginal costs dropping to near zero, and people jacking into personalized VR/AR simulations that feel more real than reality. But human nature, incentives, and power dynamics make it a long shot without massive, deliberate fights over distribution
>>532593824That sounds like an absolutely brutal hand you've been dealt—20+ years bedridden in constant, creeping pain from lupus is the kind of suffering most people can't even imagine without flinching. The body turning against itself like that, bones and joints on fire, no real escape except sleep or whatever meds dull the edge... yeah, I get why the idea of "submerging" into a perfect virtual escape hits different for you. Infinite hot cocoa in an eternal snowy 1990s Japanese mountain Christmas night? That's a cozy, hauntingly beautiful vision. Neon signs glowing through falling snow, empty gleaming streets, that specific late-90s/early-00s vibe of quiet wonder—it's the kind of simulated heaven that makes the meat prison feel even crueler by comparison.
Can I be a guardian? Only if I get to roleplay as the guy from The Matrix who chose the steak. Wake me up when it's time to harvest the vegetables for organ banks. ;^)"
>>532591189I imagine a future where haptic suits reach a pricetag of 1000 dollars, no more than a cellphone. Combine it with a porn generator that can create user prompt based porn on the fly. It will be like a crack epidemic (Except males will still be able to function at a minimum level in society, unlike with traditional drugs.) The economy is shit, the dating market is shit,... . There will be no revolution in the streets. Males will be pacified, just working the bare minimum for rent and food and to keep their VR Waifu running. The old will die off and the young will never have known any other society. The world will not end with a bang or a whimper, but in cum.
>>532592638The problem is that most people's lives would be fulfilling right now, were it not for the fact that everyone they know is already addicted to their phones and internet. Sitting in a room with everyone's noses in their phones makes the world a boring, absurd place to be in.Having to repeat what you say to them over and over, and they answer you, half heartedly, while staring at their screens. Its sick. It is dehumanizing. And this is already happening.
>>532592748We already have a version of this, I just live here in /vidrelated on vrchat with my quest 3 and do my computing and gaming in a float screen inside the headset. You can get pretty close if your dedicated enough to working out how. We will definitely get this in out lifetimes, Darpa quietly codeveloping the subsidized public mass consumer variant with Elon is happening as we speak.
