You're not comparing the cost to get out there, mine, refine and return it to the earth to the cost of on planet production. You're comparing the cost to get out there, mine, refine, manufacture and push massive pieces of hardware into orbit and beyond from the moon compared to doing the same from earth's surface. Resource gathering and processing out of the gravity well of earth is desirable because it is orders of magnitude cheaper on an ongoing basis to manufacture stuff out "in space" for "in space" use than it would be to do it here and send it up there. Space mining isn't for profit back home, it's to make proliferation of hardware and assets in space actually feasible.
