Yes it was money that was frozen after the Iranian Revolution in 1979. But at the time it was only a few hundred million dollars. The frozen money was SUPPOSED to be put into an interest generating account in 1979. So by the time Obama gave the money back it SHOULD have increased from $400mil to $1.7bil. But since it was never put into an interest generating account the US had to cough up the difference of $1.3bil.The most controversial part was that the payment was made in CASH. Which made the $1.7bil de-facto untraceable (Iran could easily use it to arm Hezbollah, make black market purchases, etc). 2ndThe $150bil figure was also frozen assets, however there is a lot of Jewish Bullshittery surrounding this number. Since the $150bil was being held by Jewish Bankers, once it became unfrozen they were owed a cut for their role in holding onto it for the past 36 years. Nobody knows exactly how much they took, best guess is around $50bil. Additionally part of the money was tied up in complex international sovereign debt funds and other bullshit like that, so its not easily, or immediately, accessible to Iranian.
