With no deal and the Strait closed, oil prices (both spot and futures) will continue to rise and everything will continue to get more expensive, until we achieve stagflation. Then it’s the 70s all over again, with mass inflation AND unemployment. All because one 80 year old boomer made a bad decision

In the event that the strait of Hormuz and the Bab-el-Mandeb strait are mined, blocked, tolled, or the flow of oil and fertilizer slows or halts the only places on the planet that can make up that difference in exported hydrocarbons and nitrogen are North America (The US and Canada) and Russia and the most vulnerable locations will be Europe, South East Asia, and Japan.

So closing the straits benefits Russia and the United States and hurts Europe, South East Asia, and Japan by making them more reliant on the US and Russia for their hydrocarbon and nitrogen needs. Who owns all of that 40 Trillion dollars worth of US debt? Who is financing the US empire and holding US Treasuries? Europe, South East Asia, and Japan!

The US has manufactured a scenario where its debt holders and financiers must choose between becoming a vassal state of the Russian Empire or continue the war they are already financing and waging against Russia in Ukraine and by extension deepen their reliance on American energy and protection.

Too late. The damage is done. The best time to remove him was when he started the war.

When I was studied economics at school they taught it as an economic problem, the failure of Keynes and why we needed neoliberalism. It's only later that I realised that Keynesian economics still worked and an oil crisis because of a conflict caused stagflation.
