It's not even about the money, it's just a leverage to force other countries in line when there's the inevitable operation against Russia. There won't be boots on the ground but US is going to have a permanent presence by the Strait for the foreseeable future. To be fair Iran started this shit when they armed and coordinated with Houthis to attack trade vessels at the Suez Canal and Strait of Hormuz.
