Supermium: Currently the most recommended option. It is a modern fork of Chromium (the engine behind Chrome) designed specifically for Windows XP and newer. It provides access to the latest web standards and features like password saving, Chrome extensions, and Google account sync.

Haha no i wont. Dont want microsoft ruining my os with updates. Also text and picture website that ran fine in 2008 now it may not be so. F12 (or F11) when running browser shows the monstrous traffic to ad servers and spyware and other bloat garbage.

>>532864741
While there is some tendency to bloat in software in general (has to do with how it's made, you don't want to pay to recreate the whole thing and all parts are not functionally minimal so some stuff is a far too large component duct taped together.), it's also the case that you're dealing with an US monopoly company that has been doing a shit job for some years now.

If you have time, you can try switching to Linux or BSD or OSX. It also won't be a nice smooth perfect solution, but it's better.

Bloat. When a company gets big it becomes a bureaucracy and then you have large numbers of managers trying to put their personal favourite fad into the product, so the product bloats out.
Remember when Microslop tried to turn Windows into a mobile phone interface when smart phones and tablets started to take off?
Unreal Engine 5 is another example of bloat. So much shit has been tacked onto an old engine that a new engine like the BlackSpace Engine (from Pearl Abyss/Crimson Desert) totally mogs it.
Nasa is another example. Private launch companies are running circles around them.
Then there is the biggest bureaucracy of them all - government.

>Why are computers like this?
Not computers, OSes.
Grab yourself a copy of 12.04 Lubuntu (yes, LUbuntu, not "Ubuntu") and stick it on any very old machine you have going spare (spare, as in, have no intention of using). Installation process is a bit technical but you'll muddle through it. You will find it has a similar response time to Windows XP.
Now try Ubuntu (yes, UBuntu), any modern version, and you will find it slow as balls.
Lubuntu and Ubuntu are from the same OS family tree (Lubuntu is literally a fork of Ubuntu). Why does Lubuntu run faster? Because the dev gave a shit about speed (the L stands for 'Lightweight').
The newer version of Lubuntu (16.04 onwards) have enshittified with the forced adoption of NSA Red Hat's systemD with RCE HTTPS backdoor (and soon to be age spyware, which really everyone needs to be kicking up a stink about as it's real time tracking).
The OS dictates the boot speed.
Also the other poster's remark about not connecting XP to the Internet relates to viruses, trojans and worms. You're probably very young and did not experience the horrors of malware hijackings in your sandboxed shithole smartphone walled panoptic surveillance box.

Video games used to be optimized to work with less requirements.

Honestly any of the major distros would be fine. The only issue would be nvidia drivers so you'd probably wont to find one that has an nvidia installer. If you are less experienced there is stuff like popos, cachyos, bazzite, that have an nvidia installer. I haven't used an nvidia gpu in years so I don't know what it is like to get drivers running on stuff that doesn't have it ready out of the box. I hear it can be a pain in the ass for people less experienced in linux.

And they don't even try to hide it anymore. IME has been around since like 2009. Nvidia has been adding all types of "features" that can operate when the device is powered off. They even want to have some AI cores in some of their new stuff that always has access to your laptops webcam even when the device is asleep or powered off. The claim it is for windows hello facial recognition for faster login times, and normies will eat that shit up. AMD is on the better end "publicly" but who knows what kind of back doors their shit has. I'm convinced every x86 cpu has a backdoor built into it at this point.

Capitalism and how it really works.
People seem to think competition and free markets will always cause the best products to win but that's not what actually happens. Is that really up for debate for anyone over the age of 30? Everyone knows products have been getting worse along with services for decades.
My grandparents have the same oven and refrigerator they bought when they moved into their house they live in now which they built in the 70s.
What really happens is Capitalists acquire vast wealth and influence then use it to kill the free market. They do this by essentially buying out the government.
>"Money talks, bullshit walks."
Capitalists don't play fair. Business strategy and negotiation is essentially a game of cunning and trickery. There's a reason why, historically, Aryans have despised the mercantile class or at least were distrustful of them and certainly did not allow them to have sweeping control in government.
Capitalism and the moral influence it has over the minds of men as a socio-economic system in which we all will if you allow it to give you the same ethics as a street gangster. More money by any means necessary, no attachment to a higher set of values beyond window dressing as a marketing and negotiation tactic,
You only had quality when quality was the metric by which a product, commodity or service was judged principally. Now it's charged by whether it's sold at a good deal and Capitalists only care about making the most money for the least expense; it is obvious to anyone with common sense that this does give you good products, commodities, consummables and services.

As a last example, I will use Big Box stores and corporations like Walmart as an example. Once upon a time, these chains were in fact better than their competition.
>wider variety of products
>higher quality products
>better prices
>superior and comprehensive customer service
You will especially notice this in small town America. Where once you had wide variety of places to shop all owned by people who were local and could be held accountable, now you have these colonies of an economic empire. Once they killed all competition, they don't need to have good prices or quality or variety. 90% of what's in a Walmart now is their own brands. They don't need to pay people well or provide them with good training or incentivize them to give you good service.
When was the last time you asked a store employee to help you with something? They are all visibly stoned or disgusting-looking troons who regard you the same way you might a bug on your kitchen counter you just can't bring yourself to kill.

Every year. Not all of them obviously, but at least one of these every year. I used to have a decent hustle repairing appliances for people but you can't fix this shit now and you can't get the specialty parts for them at all. If it's a Smart Appliance you're literally just fucked unless you know how to work with chips and shit. I don't exactly buy cheap or shit brands either; but they're all getting worse by the year.
Even if you do get the parts by the time you're done you've basically bought a new appliance altogether. So I can't make any money doing this anymore because by the time I charge for labor and cover the parts, they're spending more than they would if they just went out and got a new appliance.
Fuck Capitalism with a rusty spoon.
>>
Problem is that what is most likely going to be your most used software, the web browser, is bloated and slow anyway. Using Linux gives you a little overhead since it's not phoning home and constantly updating an anti-virus, but eventually your old hardware can't keep up.
>>
>>532864741
A lot of programs, even windows baked in programs, are starting to be chromium based. Eat memory like crazy and are laggy even on fast computers. Computers have been a hobby of mine since 1998 when I was 4 and I don't think zoomers understand how shit they are now. I would take 2002 internet speeds if it meant a return of that computer era. Less faggots because they were filtered back then too.

It seems that as time goes on, the requirement to know how to solder and de-solder board capacitors from all kinds of equipment increases.

I keep some CRT TV's for older consoles, and if one day One of them breaks down, its up to me.
Because deep down, i know nobody Will give a shit and small repair shops are scammers who stall for time.

Just recently i was able to fix my 8 year old membrane keyboard, a q-tip soaked in isopropanol did the trick gently pressing on the pins found on the controller logic board. I took photos as i made the disassembly and put everything together.
By the end of it, the few letter buttons that failed to register, started to work properly again.
It was satisfying.

The threat of connecting old OSs to the internet has been overstated.
You're likely not connecting via dial up or a PPPoE connection direct through your modem (which is what would leave your machine exposed online with all the ports open). Your router's firewall protects you from the majority of attacks.
Modern browsers ported to old OSs like Supermium or New Moon, along with an adblocker will protect you from the majority of malicious web code.

>Because deep down, i know nobody Will give a shit and small repair shops are scammers who stall for time.
I had an old CRT(it wasn't even a very nice one) that had the coax port ripped out the back of it. I took it to a repair shop and was told after a week that they couldn't repair it because a board was damaged, but they would take it off my hands for me and dispose of it for free. Suffice to say I turned down their offer and went to fix it myself, and it was as easy as soldering in a new coax port. People in the know are hording this shit, because it is obvious with all these smart tvs that one day they will stop working and there will be nothing anyone can do to fix them.

Yes CRTs are still superior technology to every type of lcd technology. We actually regressed technologically because 50 inch lcds with shitty colors, viewing angles, response times, frame rates, etc, were cheaper to produce and ship than a 200 pound 36 inch crt. It doesn't matter if there are cringe retards making cringe retarded threads, CRTs are still superior to any other display technology other than OLEDS(maybe).

But the heavy stuff is Chuck full of goodness!
I also have a couple PSP1004 model consoles that i will never sell.
They aren't modded though, i have enough games for them.

Windows XP games played on a CRT at 1600x1200p 60fps is much faster, than trying out with a LCD, or OLED.
60fps would be about double the speed, compared to modern screens at 60fps. However modern screens cant mimick the superior pixel motion that only CRT can provide.

Corporations face an annual $4 trillion loss in revenue.
That's something I heard the other day.
The cause of it is that people put items in their shopping cart online, and then either remove them from the cart because they changed their mind, or simply don't checkout and don't come back.
Corporations view a changed mind as a loss.
This is the reason they push and promote further integration of personal identity into commerce using biometrics and digital ID.
They're obsessed with personalised ads, and I never quite got why. Now I know why. "If an ad better tailors the customer, he's less likely to change his mind".
But ads never made me buy anything.
Ads piss me off, they put me in a bad mood every time, especially when they're more personalised.
It associates negativity and intrusion with the product, which raises the likelihood of me not buying it.
They don't care. All they care about, is cutting that illusory $4 trillion loss.
A declined transaction isn't a loss, but parasites see it this way.
Parasites are a problem.

Most people don't understand what you mean when you say it's superior tech.
You know how jagged edges are the bane of normies' experience in video games?
The shape of the pixels causes that. Perfectly squared pixels with sharp corners.
I remember playing 3D games on a CRT and not really minding the jagged edges, they weren't that sharp.
Admittedly I endured them at 640x480, 800x600, 1024x768. Never needed AA, in my opinion.
Didn't know why either, until I saw a video of a British guy showing how different the experience is of emulating a Commodore Amiga in comparison with using a real machine with its intended CRT display.
The pixels aren't square. They're soft and rounded. Fosfor fade, that's why. Trinitron displays eliminated most of that, but for everyone else it's what blurred jaggies out of existence, an effect only enhanced with lossy cabling (Composite and S-Video) and now happily emulated through CRT filters on 4k LCDs.
The fact that CRTs displayed dots even on a mat that wasn't a dot-matrix mat just because the fosfors fade is what makes 2D square pixels as much as 3D rendering look softer, less jagged, more congealed.

You should try using something like Reshade and CRT filters on an LCD panel with games, it's a huge difference and in some ways, sometimes, an improvement.

I ran Windows XP all the way out to 2017.
"Winborg edition"
But I also locked shit the fuck down even more so than that did.
99% of Windows malware gets around because of various Windows scripting functionality and lax permissions.
See in that Internet Options panel? The permission groups for different things? There's one that was never visible that was for the machine, AKA mshtml that was used everywhere in Windows.
You disable all permissions there and nothing happened. None of those superweapons from intel agencies could do shit if you disable basically all of Microsofts crap-services as well.
Windows XP, arguably even most of the Windows Vista branch, and somewhat even Windows 10, was built on the Trusted Computing mantra of the 90s, the fact that everyone was implicitly trusted as being a Good Guy.
The internet itself is built on that mantra as well, which is why Pakistan nuked Youtube for most of the internet because they got mad over some videos, trust between peers can easily be broken when people are forced.
In most WinXP versions built for Point of Sale and Embedded hardware, you can enable an executable whitelist that absolutely prevents ANY unknown code from running, even if it is hooked on to another process like some malware does. Absolutely forbidden. It's solid as fuck.

The biggest issue with older machines is the obscene shitware on the web thanks to React and jQuery-esque shitters and their bloated libraries.

That was an experiment in perception.
How many times do you see something and go "no, I've never seen it before" and when you see it a second time the next week you go "yeah I remember something about that, could it be true that it was this way years ago? I don't remember that... But I remember seeing it so it must be..."
You probably don't think the latter part.
Others do. They remember having seen it that first time, but forgot that that was the first time.
Not everyone remembers every detail.
How many do? That's extremely important to study, because it tells the Jews how much they have to lie in order to move the masses who can't remember details.

old 90s CTR tvs have less buttons and a more intuitive interface than apple products. they had a higher refresh rate and a better gaming performance than LED tvs. they also had a super snappy proto-internet which allowed looking up the current programming and other helpful info all with the same remote. these TVs only needed one singular remote.
yes, they were heavy and clunky because they were made from real materials but these machines performed better than modern TVs. it's like the difference between a vintage Cadillac and some modern plastic and aluminum car.
so yeah. tech becomes often shittier after the adoption phase when it goes into the enshittening phase where money can only be made by removing functionality and selling less for more often disguised as improvement.

I'm not even going to bother reading this thread because it's probably full of virgins questioning why anyone would even have windows installed.
But to your point, OP... XP was the absolute pinnacle of Windows. Every setting in one fucking place, no bloat, not meant to be pretty, and only cares about being highly functional. Native support for configurable task bar, system tray that didn't have aids, and quick launch bar that existed as a first class citizen and was vastly more sensible than "pinned apps".
The visual style in general was very high contrast and not everything has gay ass rounded edges.
It can't even compare with the contemporary microsoft slop. They tried to steer closer and closer to a mac feel and it's just neen horrendous.
>>
>>532873436
Nukes and covid are fake, but whatever
>>
>>532864885
You can separate bloat/functionality/feel/UI design/UX design entirely from all the security features added since then. They have nothing to do with one another. Browsing shady websites on XP was like fucking African hookers without a condom, but that absolutely does not change the fact that the entire feel of that OS beats Windows 10 and 11 by miles.
>>
>>532864741
windows is garbage. always has been.
>no not another linux post

You use an OS made by the Vaccine Master Bill fucking Gates. what do you expect?
Windows has always been so behind on tech adaption it is embarrassing. How long did they take to adapt 64bit? 14 years?
So glad I have not used windows this century.

Darwin. This is not about me.
This is about windows being garbage, which it is.
The biggest problem windows has is keeping support for old or garbage tech.
All there 'new os features' are just tech they bought and shoehorned into the os expecting it to work.
Windows needs to be rebuilt from the ground with zero legacy support.

I went to highschool with one of the guys in that photo. He was dirt poor. He won some regional coding competition and Microsoft recruited him right out of highschool. They bought him a car to drive west and an apartment in Redmond. Bro sent money home so his mom wouldn't have to live poor any more. Was truly a better time.

Just install arch, artix if you don’t want to have systemDalit (but more and more stuff depends on it) or if you are a tranny just go for gentoo. If any of you don’t want to use troonix I invite you to go on >>>/g/ right into friendly windows thread and get yourself win 10 iot ltsc enterprise. Its very lightweight and eats up around 2gb of ram at desktop after booting (compare that to 7GB that win11 did).
>>

Just install Windows 7, fixed all that junk for you.

they caught wind of it but if you like personal computing
buy up cheap used office pcs or prebuilts under 100 dollars
and put linux windows 7 or 8 on them
and shut off every microsoft service you can
and preferably keep them offline
im kinda fucked rn cuz i have 2 pcs that are software shadowbanned but
i think shits going to get better
but if you dont want to have to buy nonsense tech
i would go for older hardware
my win 8 laptop is pretty good
spent 800 dollars on it in 2013
spent maybe 200-300 repairing it
the screen and the hdd broke
use what you have as long as you can
my plan is to turn all my pcs into linux multi media devices
then maybe get a handheld
but i dont want to support the current tech regime

Windows XP runs on Pentium 4 just fine.
Unless you plan on maxxing out video games, which you can.
There are 1150 socket boards who natively support WinXP, such as i74790K, and up to GTX 970.

Windows XP can support up to 128GB, there is an unofficial patch online that unlocks the 4GB limit. (3.25GB's for 32bits)

However, it is strictly for the biggest of enthusiasts such as myself, not dalit shitskins.

How do you even record video games on Win95 software wise?
Unless you use the VGA method.
At least with Windows XP, you have the good Ol' Fraps.
Which is still the lossless way to get anything, i prefer it to OBS.
The downside is the behemoth .avi files it creates, but i can encore that easily with HandBrake.
Everything done in Windows XP.
>>
>>532864885
I know this +70-year-old man that I sometimes visit that has a very old laptop from the 2000s running Windows XP that he uses to connect to the internet.
It's slow as shit because it doesn't even have 1GB of RAM, but it works just fine to do official paperwork on government websites and even watch stuff on youtube.

Laptops from that era had easily removable and replaceable batteries. The battery croaked and he had to always have the charger plugged in.
I found him a replacement battery on Amazon and he's still using it years after.

In his defense shit comes pre-overclocked nowadays. My Ryzen 9 was thermal throttling itself for a while doing mundane shit until I figured out the default setting for the mobo was some kind of "boost clock" feature that would actively OC the CPU to like 5ghz anytime something "demanding" happened.
>>
>>532864885
I seriously doubt that there's any malware circulating for xp these days. Hackers and botnets target the most commonly used OS which are directly connected to WAN and thus are not hiding behind NAT firewalls. I probably wouldn't risk it anyway because Linux exists but I feel relatively confident that xp won't be infected, not immediately anyway, and even less if you don't run it with Admin accounts. The biggest issue will be finding a modern browser. JavaScript engines from that era surely don't work anymore.
I still have my old box with OG xp in the storage, but the G-card doesn't have HDMI so connecting it to a monitor will be challenging.

If by patching you mean writing C libraries yourself to get the modern C# libraries to run even the most basic programs, then it really is a "specialist" job and very time consuming for the reward. I would much rather write libraries for Wine and run the programs on a modern Linux system. Also virtualization is a thing these days. QEMU/KVM runs 32 bit XP rather well and with proper settings it could run 32bit XP games faster than on the old box.
