He appealed to you using psychological tricks that the world of business has developed and honed for 70+ years. He proved something definitively about America, that it views politics in a Freudian nature and prefers when someone appeals to their unconscious animalistic desire rather than it being about something more than that. He "told it like it is", and used quick-witted slogans that meant absolutely nothing, but it felt like they did. His entire campaign was about making you feel a certain way, and then in turn voting for him made you feel like you were making a statement about your personality, like it was a "fashion statement".
