I drove past Indianapolis on I-70/I-65 this weekend. THOUSANDS of new housing units going up right alongside the interstate. Do you know how big one acre actually is? I own 0.76 acres and it's fucking huge. It's like three times what a yard needs to be. Making one acre the standard will just create suburban sprawl for no reason. I'm not saying large plots shouldn't be available for people that want them, but like a 0.25 acre lot is more than enough for an 1800 square foot home and would let you actually put a good number of homes into a smaller area, reducing the need for long commutes.
