We might crack serviceable space habitats, but terraforming an alien world is a total pipe dream. Its not like star trek where you can just land and walk around, most planets out there not only don't support terrestrial life but literally cannot. Poisonous atmospheres, toxic soils, gravity that is either strong enough to explode your heart or weak enough that you'll be riddled with health problems after a year or two, radiation levels, etc.Even if you find something in the perfect conditions for life, that just means that life of some kind has good odds to have already evolved there. And once that happens, we can NEVER settle there. Alien microbes from a completely different evolutionary path to ours will be a complete wildcard for our immune systems. We will either be completely immune to them because we don't interact at all or they will be wildly lethal to us because we have no defense against them. There is very little middle ground here. Anyone dumb enough to think they can just fly off to some other solar system to establish their ethnostate colony like you are are just crossing to the new world is going to die in space.
