They didn't. I didn't really have beliefs. Grew up going to ccd and got kicked out for being a big trouble maker that never took it seriously. Nuns didn't really know what to do with kids they couldn't beat anymore at that point. Stopped going to catholic church becuase that was my moms background and she stop going becuase she was the one who lost her faith and stopped attending so we being kids stopped attending too. I came around to faith significantly later in my own life. Screwtape letters was my introduction. I read it from a largely secular view point regarding it more or less as a fantasy parable exploring the nature of vice but I still enjoyed it and founding quite insightful and started reading more lewis. Around the same time met sone reall exceptional people who had a lot of respect for christianity even if they were in a similar place in regards to actual faith and that's what started my journey. Bwfore that i did still definitely did have a breif, albeit minor, fedora-lite phase in early high-school.

I became Gnostic given my Christian background and actual spiritual experiences. I didn't even know what Gnosticism was when I started putting the pieces together about the nature of my reality. In my mind, Gnosticism is the spirituality of Jesus himself and the true interpretation of Christianity, which has largely been subverted by jews/archons/institutions/whatever to blind people to the fact that they are part of the real God and the kingdom of heaven exists within themselves on a spiritual level.
