How feasible would be a modern version of medieval chain mail and medieval or japanese armor to protect infantry from drones?
>>
A full suit of chain mail is not feasible for individual soldiers due to weight (typically 15–20 kg) and poor performance against modern high-velocity shrapnel and shaped charges. Unlike medieval swords, FPV drone payloads (like RPG-7 warheads) use high-velocity jets of molten metal that would punch through chain mail effortlessly.

Modern high-strength synthetic fibres like Kevlar or Dyneema function similarly to "soft mail" by dispersing impact, but they are lighter and more effective against shrapnel

Covering an entire human in steel plate (like a knight) would make them too slow to avoid drone strikes, which can reach speeds of over 100 km/h. This weight also strains the wearer, making it harder to find cover—the primary modern defense.

why would you think mail would protect you from explosions?

I think OP was under the impression it would work like an EOD bomb suit

It's pretty obvious it would have to be made of modern materials, retarded negros.

the drone operator will be confused by the sight of medieval infantry

what modern material will protect you from a direct hit by a 40mm mortar?

Replacing medieval iron and steel with modern materials like UHMWPE (Dyneema), Kevlar, and advanced ceramics would make a "neo-medieval" suit significantly lighter and more effective against shrapnel. However, the fundamental physics of FPV drone warheads (specifically shaped charges) means that a wearable suit would still fail to protect a soldier from a direct hit

1. Modern "Chain Mail" (UHMWPE/Kevlar Links)
>As a wearable suit, it is ineffective against direct drone hits. However, anti-drone netting made from UHMWPE is currently used to "catch" drones or detonate them at a distance from the target.

2. Modern "Plate Armor" (Ceramic & Graphene)
Possible, but weight remains an issue even with composites. While a chest plate (SAPI) is standard, a full suit would still weigh over 20-30kg to provide meaningful coverage.

To stop a drone's shaped charge, you need standoff distance (space between the armor and the explosion) or Explosive Reactive Armor (ERA). A suit fitting tightly to the body provides neither, meaning the blast pressure and molten jet would likely still be fatal.

it could be like a lightweight bomb explosive suit.

which wouldn't save you from a direct hit from a 40mm mortar. bomb suits exist to protect you from initiation blast from stuff like det cord or grenade primers. at best they'll keep all your bits in one place if the main charge does go off.

they have modern chainmail for EU countries where you get stabbed daily. idk how you expect it to work against a drone though, they are bombs not swords

It won't work at all. Even if you protect against shrapnel, the overpressure will turn your lungs into liquid.
Other Anon with his GPT-slop is also right about shaped charges.

How many cope cage tanks have you seen blow up because of a drone? Countless.
