Back when I was working as a handyman I found out every single 24 inch fridge it was possible to buy for less then $1000 had the exact same compressor from the same factory in China and had a solid 40% failure rate per year. The compressor would fry the circut board with back emf, every single fucking time.

When I took apart my LG washing machine they potted the entire board in epoxy so you couldn't test or replace anything but for some reason they thought it was a good idea to not do that to a refrigerator that is constantly cold and damp.

A bag of 100 diodes/led/pushbuttons from aliexpress (the same one as above, ithink they are 5mm LEDs + push buttons) would cost you literally 3$ (1$ each). Then you just clean the board with alcohol to get rid of the corrosion and resolder new ones (with attention to the polarity of LEDs). For some reason the old LEDs don't work but I soldered in a new one and it lights up and the button on the board seems to function.
Not sure why the old one would be smoked.
