It why the decapitating strikes on their leadership at the very beginning weren't effective in brining down the regime because leadership fell to local commanders. This is what has allowed them to retaliate instead of instantly folding like Venezuela. That's still the case now. It's very clear there are multiple factions in Iran, especially at the top, vying for control. The US is negotiating with one party while the other is left out. We get the OK that everything is good for transit through Hormuz, but then the other party catches wind of it, shuts it down and threatens attacks. Then the side we're trying to negotiate with has no choice but to do the same for fear of negotiations breaking down and them losing their preferred status. Their leaders and spokesmen can't even agree and are openly contradicting each other and attacking each other publicly, saying the other doesn't have the right to make whatever decisions are being made. If they're fighting against each other in the media, you can only guess to what's happening internally behind the scenes. Eventually, it'll shake itself out, but it's very clear the power structure inside Iran is in shambles and is still being figured out. The downside is this'll likely only drag out the war more while the warring factions in Iran keep giving the US the runaround while they figure their shit out. So expect $4 for the next month or two.
