One thing I regret not doing is getting a bike while living in São Paulo, so I advise you to buy a bike to go around, but beware of the hills and the crackheads in your route. Anyway, the city has many niche things to get into, such as your favorite music genre concerts, extreme sports, cycling, artsie stuff, etc great way to meet new people. I'd recommend you to rent an apartment in the North Zone, a district called Santana. If you go on a 10 or 15 min walk away from the Santana subway station, it's a whole different vibe, great little corner of the city, I just loved there, great people and nightlife too. So yeah.... I lived in Sao Pualo for like 3 years.. it has A LOT of AWESOME qualities to it.. Villa Madalena has Samba de Rais which is like super positive and beautiful... it's a bar district but generally nice and chill and fun.. Augusta is where all the teenagers and gays etc celebrate underground / gay type culture (also has tons of whorehouses).. during the day there are many neighbourhoods that are fun and generally quite safe to explore but night time is where some places become a lot more dangerous, especially centro (old town center).. it's generally a wonderful place with a lot of very positive people just try and exercise caution and stay the fuck out of the periphery or any of the random favelas you might find in the city which may be very large or very small)... if you want to you can find a good woman down there especially if she is from Minas Gerais district (they cook, clean, work, dress sexy and everything).
