Any time a model "thinks", go and read its internal monologue. It's nothing like you or I, it has no internal experience and limited capabilities of logical reasoning. It's more synthesis than thesis.And under all that, yes, it is still just predicting the next token based on human data. Everything we see is emergent behavior. Can it come up with novel things? Sometimes, if they're a likely answer in a field of work with rich data. On the cutting edge? Absolutely not yet, it is still just a statistically driven stochastic process. I will be very surprised if that behavior is emergent from current algorithms.
