>or asking unrealistic amounts for salary/hourly
If they have no intentions to negotiate at all, why the fuck are they asking us? They should just state what they are willing to give. I hate HR roasties so much its unreal.

Try putting your degree and your marks on it. Provide references from your prof and links to your work.

Have you tried that?

>Can't play the corporate game well enough to even get through the interview
Your career is already doomed. Go get a blue collar job

Walk into every business, ask to speak to owner or manager if not available, tell them you are looking for work and can start today, shake hands and get to work, often somebody just quit or the business needs more people so you have to be that miracle man who appears at rhe right time, they will think that you are

Actually you know what I'm in a good mood.

I'm an actual business owner. I have owned my own software firm since just before COVID. We have somewhere between 30-50 employees most of which I personally interviewed. Before that I was the senior engineer at a SaaS company building B2B software. We aren't hugged but if you knew my name you'd find me instantly in Google as the top result.

I'm being a bit fuzzy in detail on purpose because I don't want to get doxed. Ask a real question, put some actual effort into it and I'll point you in the right direction. youve got 30 mins or until this thread archives.

Job applications won't get you a job. Try family and friends. Connections is the only way regardless of what you studied or your actual skills. Stop wasting time and go talk to people.

Would you mind travelling for work?

How long did it take your company to become profitable and how much did your previous jobs help you in the process? Would you say that it's necessary to be employed before launching your own company? Do you have more or less free time than when you were employed?
>>

Lol not the question I was expecting but fair.

1. Profit and previous jobs.
Complex question desu. I was profitable within the first month as a solo contractor. I went hard on socials but also critically important I was consistent. I joined local community groups and built small bits of software advertising myself as a big corporate programmer and over time it snowballed. I also went to a number of business networking groups, found people talked to them about their pain in business and then built software that helped them.

My role as a programmer helped me execute on the first few jobs as a solo company myself, it did fucking nothing to help me actually run a business and it was an incredibly difficult transition. I wish I had a mentor that could show me the way but I never had that in life. I had to figure it out myself and that meant books and trial and error. Lots of both.

2. Employment before launch
Yes and no. My employment before launch earned me the money I used to keep myself afloat for a few months until I started landing contracts, and my employment gave me the skills I needed to know intimately what I'm actually talking about when I go into a board room. One of my key differentials as a business is that when I meet with somebody, I'm not just a sales guy or some fat exec who wants to wine and dine, I know my shit and I'll explain to your tech in depth and in exacting detail exactly how and why we do everything we do.

3. Free time
Infinitely more now. I generally don't get out of bed until about 930am and Im usually up most nights because I prefer the quiet cool evening. I decide when I meet with people and I decide when I feel like showing up at the office. Sometimes I just say fuck it and go ride my motorbike all day. Who's going to fire me? In the first few years, significantly less time to myself though. It was hard work and it still is (in different ways)
