The lake is filled back up and they're starting to let people put their boats back on the lake in what they're calling a "soft opening". The lake will probably be completely open in around a month. Chimney Rock park and the town of Chimney Rock are open again, the road down from Hendersonville is open to the public; but its still one lane with an automated traffic light in one spot. The road down from Fairview and Asheville to the lake is officially closed; but you can drive down it just fine although its one lane in a few spots. If you want to see the extent of the crazy damage done by Helene driving down one of those roads is a real eye opener. The lake is real pretty at the moment and we've got restaurants and what not open; but if you want to get in the lake you'll need to wait a month.

I don't know if its open yet, I know the trails up there got more damaged than the lower park. You could call the park and see if its open. As for sneaking in, I don't think its really accessible any way except for through the park unless you're prepared to spend a few days hiking up the backside of a mountain with no trails on it.
