As WWIII ramps up, food rationing is likely to occur. Things that you are used to seeing on shelves simply won't be there and what IS available will be capped. If you want to avoid starvation, your best bet is to start growing food yourself. There are some annuals, like potatoes, that are pretty easy to do with little effort (look up the "no till" method), but the lowest effort way will always be to grow some perennials. If you plant yourself some berry bushes, a few hazelnut trees and some vines, you can help supplement your diet enough that you actually stand a good chance of surviving.Don't end up like the Dutch in WWII. They ended up having to eat tulip bulbs just to make it through "the hunger winter". In the UK, food rationing didn't end for several years until after the war was over.Don't know what to plant? Post your USDA hardiness zone and we'll help you select plants that will do well in your climate.
Stockpile now anons, Normies wont listen or even bother, kek. Do it quietly.
>>533553716Having a stockpile of food is good, but a diet of beans and rice will drive you mad in short order. You really should do both. Even just having some herbs like chives to help spruce up your food will do wonders for your morale.
If you live in a colder climate, you should really try haskap. It's easy to grow and tastes fantastic.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zqOD-ZqLYHo
I'm still stocked from the covid nightmare.
Ever had currants? They come in a bunch of different colours and pack a ton of flavour. They make fantastic preserves due to their naturally very high pectin content.

>>533553289I already barely have time to eat so nothing would change for me
How about sweet viburnum, also known as the "nannyberry"?
This one is called a "che" fruit, also known as a mandarin melon berry. As the name implies, it tastes like a watermelon and, if you only plant female trees, your fruit will be entirely seedless.
If you live in its range (zones 5 through 8), you absolutely should plant yourself some pawpaws!
>>533553289i have a weapon, if social order collapses I'll just take what i want from shitskins and gooks.
>>533554909Fun fact: Bleeding out because you got your dick shot off is a faster way to die than starvation.
>>533554957I guess you missed the last 25 years of War footage from Syria and Ukraine? Have fun sitting in a death trap while roaming bands of psycho's are roaming everywhere
>>533555266If you're raiding places for food, you're already starving. The people growing their own food won't be. They'll also know the land and firearms are a standard in every agricultural toolkit. You'll fucking die.
>>533554909Looters didn't make out too well during Hurricane Katrina. Maybe you'll have better luck than this guy.
>>533555608Katrina was fucking nuts. It's surprising how little /pol/ talks about it.
Home growing is not financially feasible to feed yourself. You'd need an acre of free land and basically be working full time to upkeep it. Unless you're already off the grid and don't have a job, it's practically impossible to upkeep it year round and you'll still need ot figure out how to get enough protein since beans only sprout once per year.
Hate to tell you, Leaf, but in the event of WWIII, the soil will be too ruined by fallout and nuclear winter will be too cold for you to grow jack shit, especially in your country.
>>533553289Little tip, if you get a food rationing card and if ask "if you are smoker?" say yes, and use cigarettes as currency when you need things.Another tip waste nothing everything will be jarred one way or another.
>>533555766Perennials require almost no work once planted. That's why I'm recommending them. You also don't need to grow 100% of your calories, just more than nothing.
>>533555823Japan was nuked and they have lots of agriculture. They grow some of the best fruit in the world.
>>533555889It might also be worthwhile to grow some tobacco plants yourself if you're in the right climate. Even low quality tobacco will go a long way when bartering in such a scenario.
>>533555717It's a good place to look into if you want to see what our modern society would look like during a complete breakdown. Lots of lessons to be learned.
>>533555972Those were two small ones. Try roughly 12000 of them that are up to 50 times stronger.
>>533555900Most Perennials do not prove enough calories per square foot to even justify planting them. If you're farming in case of survival then nuts and berries are going to give you jack shit in terms of calories and nutrients. At least lettuce gives you more nutrients per space. You're telling people to plant a bunch of berries and nuts and to somehow live off that for days or weeks.
>>533556099A single hazelnut tree provides enough calories for a full grown man to survive an entire month.
how about I shoot you for trying to forge a narrative with your greasy shitbrown hands
>>533553289We don't even get news coverage about Iran or oil anymore. Old news now. People have moved on.
>>533556126Nigga do you genuinely believe you can just live off nuts and berries?
>>533553289Most of the people in the world live in cities. Suburbs are terrible for growing food because most have poor soil. This goes better for rural and semi rural/pseudo suburban areas.Get chickens, feast on eggs and cocks (the male chickens you will inevitably get and won't need because you can't have more than one or two)
>>533556018People still smoke drum and cheap chop chop, so home grow Tabaci would be a massive step up.See if you can grow Good king Henry. The stuff is what kept the English alive before the potato.
>>533556231Livestock are absolutely a good choice, but you will need to feed them something. Being dependent on a store for chicken feed makes your food security no better.
>>533553919Vacuum sealing spices and dry herbs will save your life. Vacuum sealing some candies will boost your morale as well.Keep the hard beans and rice for the long journey but save shorter shelf life products like flour, oil, canned foods, dried foods, canned meats and a freezer choke full of meats as well. Slowly consume your reserve based on what goes bad soon and keep the harder stuff for last.Don't forget to save salt and sugar as well. Honey doubles as medicine and will literally last thousands of years.
>>533556209Says the guy who recommends LETTUCE for nutrition. It's crunchy water.I've also stated multiple times in this thread that it is to SUPPLEMENT your diet so you aren't just eating rice and beans every meal.
>>533556376As opposed to nuts which are mostly just empty carbs because your body can fully digest them?
>>533556353Honey is also really easy to turn into mead. If you grow grapes, you can literally just toss a few of them into the brew and the natural yeast on their skins will be enough to kick-start fermentation.
>>533556325Chickens feed on bugs and grass. You can literally throw your scraps and trash and they will still produce eggs if you let them grass. If you have a compost pile you can just let them be there because they can eat whatever bug is in it and they will help you move the compost around to help it turn into fertilizer without you having to tilt it every so often. Chickens can also help you spread the composts around your garden/crops, not to mention their droppings are fertilizer on their own.
>>533556454Nuts aren't carbs, they're FATS, you fucking retard.
It's good to lose some weight
>>533556489You still don't digest most of it. Your body barely gets any energy out of them at all which is why they are used for dieting.
>>533556540You do not have enough fat on you to survive a 500+ calorie/day deficit for several years.
>>533556625Nuts are some of the most calorie dense foods on earth. They are absolutely NOT used for dieting.
>>533556638You underestimate American obesity, leaf.
>>533556470You can also save strong spirits and alcohol in your food reserves. They are extremely good trade items, they boost your morale, can be used for disinfecting to some degree and can be used for cooking depending on what you got. Alcohols actually have plenty of calories on their own as well. Dry calories so you shouldn't bet on them to survive but they are something.Vodka and rum are good options, similars also work as well. Wine is okay but it's more a trade thing, also to keep your moral up.The thing about "lean" years is not to feed on rice and beans all the time but to learn how to nagivate through harsh years while also feeding your family well. You can see many books, histories and oral tradition from countries that had famines or shortage of food, how they worked with what they had to not only survive but also thrive.I don't think this will last "too long" but those few early months will be a shock for many and the year after will be worse. The thing is to be prepared for the shock while you "acclimate" to the new state of things and learn how to work with what's available.
>>533553289Hazelnut trees, nigga it's too late for that
>>533556672Exactly. A little bit of foresight now will save you a lot of pain.People joked when I told them in January 2020 to stock up on foods/meds/TP and whatnot. A couple months later, we were the ones laughing at them.
>>533556625Not 100% but it's around 80% still. That's because normal chewing and can't break them completely. Eat your nuts as "butter". It's easier to digest like that. Likely increases it to 90% or beyond that.Still nuts are extremely calorie dense and very fatty. Even if you do not absorb the 560 calories of the 100 grams of nuts you ate, you still get around 500 calories.
>>533556703Hazelnuts take ~3 years to begin producing good crops. The best time to plant them is three years ago. The next best time to plant them is NOW.
>>533556669Lol lmaoAlso off by 3
>>533556792Yup. Hazelnut butter is fucking delicious, by the way.
It's also worth noting that, if you grow lots of edible plants, you will attract lots of edible animals.
>>533556928They are a bit of a hassle to start but shrooms are a good source of nutrition that can grow on wood and paper. Some protein from them as well.
>>533557020Mushrooms are great since you can grow them indoors on a very low budget. No grow lights needed.
>>533553289WWIII will never happen because it will clue normies into the fact that nukes are fake.Instead it will be a slow burn of proxy conflicts and stupid skirmishes likely tied to some gay freemason Numerology and Astrology. The real war going on is silent and is a covert attack against the masses by a central international force of technocrats using advanced technology to torture people to death. At best any sort of happening we might see is some funky disaster like pole shifts or a fake alien invasion that they stage in order to bring about their one world government.
Shitposting aside, I planted a peach tree literally today. Was thinking of planting another tree next week but idk how well hazelnut would grow in my yard since I live in a hardiness 10 zone.
>>533557240You might be better off with almonds or cashews. Some people DO grow hazelnuts in zone 10, but you're stretching it a bit.
>>533557240>>533557356Also worth noting that there are hybrids of almonds with plum/cherry/apricot/peach where both the flesh and the stone are edible.
>>533557426I didnt know there were nut-fruit crossbreeds. I dont really like almonds so I guess I can look into cashews.
>>533557525All of those are in the prunus family and readily cross breed. Cherry-plums are called chums. Plum-apricots are pluots.
>>533553289>>533553716i don't have room to grow food i only have room to grow tobacco. discussed this in the last thread.
>>533557199>nukes are fakeWhat makes you say that?
>>533558023At least you are growing something.
>>533558232The truth is most nukes are ancient and have been inadequately maintained. Most can't be launched at all.
>>533556044Also a great case study of what different people groups will do if SHTF
>>533558313The most damning one was the government.
>>533558292Haven't they openly been modernizing?
>>533558456When you are strong, pretend to be weak. When you are weak, pretend to be strong. A lot of China silos don't contain nukes at all and the CCP has been purging their MIC's ranks like mad lately.
>>533553289Wait until OP learns what money actually is. Fucking derp. Zoomie needs to open a book.
>>533558666You can't eat money. If there is nothing to buy, you will starve.
>>533553289>If you want to avoid starvation, your best bet is to start growing food yourself.>the lowest effort way will always be to grow some perennials.I agree with you directionally OP, and this is an excellent time to be telling others to prep, but these two statements are incorrect. The amount of canned and dried food that you can buy using the wages of even a menial job outperforms the harvest from a freedom garden or backyard farm by orders of magnitude for the same amount of hours of labor.Assuming a meager pay of $20 an hour, minus 20% for Uncle Sam, that's $16 worth of food that you can buy for that hour of labor.16 dollars can buy you a 20lb bag of rice, or 10 5oz cans of chicken breast, or 10lbs of rolled oats, or 2 lbs of honey, or two to three large 101oz cans of any staple vegetable you want. That return of nonperishable food per hour of labor is leagues above what can be achieved in a garden. Industry is simply too efficient for manual farming to compete. Now, once all of the industrial food is either rationed or eaten up and gone, then of course it makes sense to farm. But we have potentially years before that happens, and that time is better spent amassing as much shelf stable food as possible until the teat of industrial society dries up.And there are other drawbacks to growing your own food to prepare for a time of crisis, besides the labor and time inefficiency. It will put a target on your back, for one. It also positions your resources outside of your house where they can be hidden and locked off. It exposes you to danger by requiring you to regularly go outdoors where it is easier for opportunists to attack you. It turns your fenced-in property from a buffer zone between the outside and your house into an area filled with spots to hide in.
