kek. i love how the world works. society can roll along for 10, 20, 30, even 50 or 100 years being abused by or suffering under some totally oppressive system that takes advantage of every person, thing, or idea, while only a very small few reap the benefits hand over fist. until a time when society rises up and says that's enough and comes up with a law, rule, or regulation that basically amounts to kids describing what they would wish for if they could have a superpower
>i want better smartphones
>with replaceable batteries
>oh and long life batteries, definitely want that
>oh and it has to be super easy to replace, no weird screws
>and they need to be available in every store, no special distributors
>oh i got one!, they cant be too big either!
>oh heres a good one, make em universal. all batteries should fit all phones
>and um maybe with custom colors and designs
>and they cant break, and make sure they are always awesome and never suck and the best, and perfect and super cool and not fake or gay!
it's like why dont we do this from the get go when a new product hits the streets?!
>>
>>533576734
Just buy a new battery and can keep mining lithium.
>>
>>533576967
Exactly, in a decentralised economy which the jEU is killing you'd have a decentralised tech industry with products like this anyway

I think the phone battery thing has merely been an issue for a decade or so, and it's only been a "solveable" issue for maybe a few years.
Like we (the EU not any of us) actually did something because said companies were blatantly making their batteries worse over time instead of better on purpose, so they put a stop to it.
It didn't matter the years beforehand where it was just people getting jewed out of a massive amount of money every year if they wanted a phone that could last 2 days on a charge, but now purposefully neutering their own technology might put said companies behind on the world stage, or something.

Like the euro car industry, which has shitted itself, I expect that to get somewhat fixed soon.

>Life long mean 5 years faggot.
Yes - in this US it does.

>>533577257
>companies were blatantly making their batteries worse over time instead of better
What sort of phones do you use? I've had cellphones since the mid 90s, typically get a new (to me) one every couple years, and I have found that there's always some improvements from one generation to the next.
What sort of phone do you own now that you literally cannot find a replacement battery for?

>>
>>533577028
indeed. the only argument against this, is BRAND new tech where any average user could never identify potential future problems so we ultimately have to accept the new product or tech at face value, because often times even the inventor or producer of said product has no idea what can and will go wrong. but we are well beyond that point. we are not experiencing a constant flow of ascended and transcended tech and devices entering into our daily lives. only the most ignorant rock or hole dwelling troglodyte would find the idea of a better battery mind blowing. tech is so basic these days (including genAI and LLMs) that our first question can simply be "can it break?" and if the answer is yes, we then say fuck off. but because are society is filled with npc consoomers we accept garbage products and then marvel at all the subsequent updates, patches, hotfixes

Cell phone batteries used to be simple to replace. Apple, and the iPhone kick started the kike scheme of not being able to easily replace them, and then other smartphone companies followed.

Americans cannot comprehend the idea of a government that works for them and makes their life better with regulations.

They all believe that they are forever one more tax break for billionaires away from utopia. Just one more deregulation and the invisible hand of the free market will make everything right.

The notion of having agency or standing up for themselves is totally foreign.
>>
>>533577600
They can’t in the EU. 5 years of software updates is required.
They have to update the software for the old hardware.

>>533577744
This is the rare case of the EU doing something good. Irreplaceable batteries is just planned obsolescence and was never an issue before the apple kikes.

This will not hit the USA for half a decade, if ever.
The phone has a fixed battery so he gov can turn your phone on to spy on you any time of day. It's a feature.
>>
>>533578318
>This will not hit the USA for half a decade, if ever.
mmm, doubt it. Apple wont have two separate designs for EU and the rest of the world. That is way too expensive. It would just rollout like the USB C change most likely.
>>
>>533578243
>Laptops now all have like 1tb hard drives
>Phones get less slots and still fill up their storage space instantly
I would guess that this is to encourage spending on cloud storage services, but actually nobody uses those.
I wonder if there's a way to have something that automatically hooks up your phone camera to a detached more efficient form of storage like a laptop hard drive, so you could hypothetically take terrabytes of pictures without running out of space.

If companies could do what ever they wanted, all food would be inedible, salaries would be paid in company store coupons only, half the world would be enslaved, companies would bill grieving families whenever a workplace accident happens, if they even bother putting a fire exist it’d have a service charge, etc.
Corporations are regulated for very good reasons.
>>
>>533576608
Some chink manufacturer will come up with a battery that will last for 10 years with a 5 day battery life.
>>
>>533578507
>All food would be inedible
They already are working on this pretty heavily, but doing it through regulations.
You can't have a commercial farm in any city / suburb lots because they're afraid your little stand will draw so much traffic it'll destroy the city. They work through making up these regulations to destroy their competition, that now has to spend extra time and money marketing and selling instead of putting up a little farm stand.

The number one weapon of corporations is regulations that hurt their competition.
>>
>>533578401
They'll have 1 design for the rest of the world and another for USA, as they're instructed to do so by DHS/ATF.
Your phone WILL connect to the smoke alarms via Bluetooth, and it WILL inform authorities in real time on when you move throughout your house and it WILL record in real time for parallel construction cases and it WILL accept backdoor software through its Bluetooth connection to your smart wireless electric meter.
>>
>>533576480
oh cool now the mark of the beast device is more fixable. thanks eu!
>>
>>533576480
Long lasting batteries are nice but the actual problem are the forced software updates.
The current phones are already strong enough and being forced to update to a new shittier software due to Apps/Websites not accepting old OSes is disgusting.
Old iphones with iOS14 or below are still usable and yet they can't post here due to cloudflare.
Bank apps, communication apps and Youtube are also unusable.

How many weeks before all of that happens? What sort of phone do you use now?

I had a moto phone I really liked, but after a while the battery was fucked and it died so fast. So I was forced to buy a new phone instead of just buying a new battery to replace.
>>
>>533578099

if there were no regulations, people would have to actually think about the food they eat and get it from trusted sources, rather than just eating any shit at the grocery store.

>>
>>533580909
Depends on how the regulation is imposed.
If it demands no-assembly-required, then all phones are getting chunkier.

I figure many vendors will get around this by just using smaller batteries. So all phones will probably be losing power-on time (some will gain by virtue of the battery cell being able to span the entire rear of the phone, where they used to compete with the mainboard). Flip phones are likely to be worse, since they can't stack the length of the phone.

But there will be after market alternatives, and with iteration comes more elegant detachable solutions.

But initially you will either be losing power-on time, have a thick 'wallet' of a lump, or both.
>>
>>533576480
they'll just make the batteries last much shorter so you constantly need to replace them
