California's fuel tax usually goes to the road upkeep. which means five fat caltrans guys stand around while a sixth one shovels some gravel

$1.40 is tax which goes to a bunch of "green" initiatives that are just DEI programs where useless people get paid to do nothing. The remainder goes to China.

California uses a type of gasoline called CaRFG, which is quite literally only used in California and nowhere else on Earth. This used to be made in refineries in the state, but the state has forced all but one to either close or to stop producing gasoline in favor of "renewable fuels". Now most of the gasoline is imported from refineries in China and, to a lesser extent, Japan and South Korea.

Gas taxes and California requires different types of oil that are more expensive for (((environmental))) reasons

If I lived that close I would literally drive over the bridge to fill up.

This, so the oil California pumps itself isn’t even sold in California they import oil that had to be shipped to China and back or from Asia through China to the U.S.

It's not different oil broadly speaking, just different refined product requirements to help mitigate smog which if you've ever been in the LA basin on a 100 degree sunny day it starts to make a lot of sense. The lack of exemptions during extreme 7-9 dollar/gal price crunches is just idiocy though.

well it's not like they're on the fringe of nowhere or something... they are in the middle of nowhere. If you're in the middle of anywhere that's the place to be.

That settles it

California doesn't produce a meaningful amount of oil anymore. The state hasn't issued a license for new extraction in decades, and nearly all of the existing fields are tapped out. There's a big north-south pipeline that will be shutting down later this year because there isn't enough oil being produced to sustain pressure in the system.

Outside of the new offshore drilling that Trump just ordered (and which the state is suing to block), there will be literally 0 oil production in California within 5 years.

>>533622507
not the same type of gasoline. California mandates the use of a special blend that is 'better for the environment' that needs to be shipped across the fucking ocean and costs more. Arizona probably uses good old gulf refinery gas like non-retarded people.

California gas is different than all other gas (crazy, weird regulations). You can’t import Texas gasoline into California unless it is intentionally made to be “California Gas.” This is why most California gasoline is refined in California, but that is starting to change. It is cripplingly expensive to refine crude oil in California, so a lot of companies are looking to create “California Gasoline” in Texas and pipe it into California. Like 3 California refineries have already shut down as of the past 2 years or so.

Also, California charges VLCCs basically a $1mil “environmental idling fine” to unload in California. So all this talk about Iran’s toll being unfair is funny since California already does the same and worse to crude oil tankers.

California’s infrastructure is fucked in so many ways that I don’t know how they hang on.
>>
They're currently working on taking a pipeline that pumps gas from California's refineries to Phoenix and reversing it to pump gas from Phoenix to California instead so the prices should equal out somewhat once that's done

It doesn't make sense to me that there's even cities on the California side that close to the border. You're so close to better political and economic prospects, why the fuck wouldn't you just go slightly further and enjoy them? My guess is those shithole towns are full of welfare queens that get better benefits on the California side.
