It had no freedom of press, no freedom of speech, no political parties or real elections for that matter. One may argue that all those things are not necessary and, in fact, harmful, but the Reich's story is the precise example why he entirety of the power over state affairs cannot rest in the hands of one person, otherwise you end up having zero control over your country's and ultimately your own fate as well. Its always a red flag when your government bans freedom of press and speech - just gets to show it is not confident in its foundational ideas enough to have somebody challenge them. It usually means you are being lied to.
