When Poland was spit between the USSR and Germany, there was a mass migration of several million jews across the border into Soviet territory. Those jews were confronted with the reality of life in the Soviet Union. Allegedly, according to some accounts, those jews were then asked whether they wanted to return or not. The ones that said "yes" were killed. The ones that said "no" were shipped to work camps in Siberia. There is testimony backing this up. When the Germans advanced through Eastern Europe, it was explicit Soviet policy to evacuate the jews first. They pulled the jews out of every city and town deep into the Soviet interior. Through soviet policy, those jews were forced to abandon their identity as jews, and see themselves mostly as Russians. The Soviet population is 100 million odd people, and can absorb a couple million jews like it was nothing. There were also many immigration schemes that transported jews to America under fake names. Pretending to be Norwegian, or French, or British. In fact one of the biggest holocaust deniers, Paul Rassinier, was arrested by the Germans for participating in such a scheme. Also remember that the jewish population in Eastern Europe was mostly old. Sure there were children and families, but honestly the majority of the youth had been immigrating to America for years before that. Their population growth was totally flat.
