It's not free, it's funded heavily by taxes and by Europeans underpaying for their own defense.America's poorest state has a higher GDP per capita than all but the wealthiest microstates of Europe, like Luxembourg. Median income is also higher. Housing is much cheaper and much more available. Cars are cheaper, fuel is cheaper, and if one wants to live in a city with developed public transit, that public transit is cheaper than it is in European cities.
