A former Indian colleague let me crash at his place after a work event. He treated me well, he made me some kind of vegetarian meal as we were talking about the night before. He was eating his with his hands which was weird but okay.I went to wash my plate (to be a good guest) and he was like "no no no, Arjan will clean that". And sure enough, when that guy got up, he immediately began cleaning all the dishes in the sink. I later learned that this guy was a caste below all the other guys, so they ordered him around like he was their maid and talked down to him and he just... accepted it. Very strange and backward people.I think one of the main mistakes we Europeans make is that we try to be polite and kind to Indians, even when they're being a bit rude or aggressive. To try to difuse the situation and give them an out. But in my experience, the Indians either have this aggressive gloating and talking down mode or they grovel and beg at your feet. No in between, either you are above them or below them and get treated according to their hirarchy. So when the European is acting polite, empathetic and so on, in the face of Indian austism, the Indian takes this as a signal: if you are acting this way, you must be beneath me and they go into that mode of talking down and acting superior.So it finally clicked with me why if you look at the Arab monarchies where they import them as slaves, they yell, they talk down and then even get out a cane and beat them, the Indian submits completely and doesn't see an issue with it. I also remember seeing videos of Indian police beating random people trying to get through some street but their were covid restrictions. The police just yelled and beat them with canes when the Indians tried to talk down to the police and demand an exception be made. Indians accepted the yelling and the cane to the ass and left. It's just their (primative) culture.So the woman may have made a mistake trying to let the jeet down gently.
