Why hasn’t the US experienced the pain of the 1970s Oil Shortage? This is baffling to me. Gas prices have barely spiked.
>>
because prices are fake and gay and completely divorced from actual supply

not how any of this works. ND has the ability to triple current us supply within a year alone. nevermind TX or AK. We only pretend to need the world's supply to play nice. 10 years ago we could drill and move the rig twice a year. probably more efficient now. Oil scientists back then said we have some 100 to 300x the oil there claimed due to faster than anticipated regeneration. it's all fake and gay anon.

It's almost as if 90% of our oil arrives from North American pipelines that can't easily be repurposed to serve the international market and are thus dampened from global oil market impacts.
>>
>>533716873
Because we were more reliant on imported oil from the rest of the world in the 1970's than we are now. The oil we import today mostly comes from Canada.

Its almost like the plan people have been saying for decades now: that the US is engineering a situation where we have all the oil and can use oil as a weapon against our enemies, was true and we are actually doing it.
Total burger victory.

Because the tankers which made it out of Hormuz just before this mess started have just now unloaded in US ports. The real pain will start once that oil has run through refineries.

ORANGE NIGGER

The last imports of ME crude to the US have just arrived last week. As these supplies get used up, US refineries are going to slow production and costs for petrol and diesel are going to increase.

As the situation continues, US crude is going to be diverted to overseas refiners. Even if the US forbids these exports, as other countries have done, we will see price increases in other goods, because we have a globalized economy, and cargo ships bringing sex toys from China will have to buy bunker fuel in China, which will cost more. The economy is globalized and the local increases in energy prices will cascade to everything.

Setting aside that, there are the other petroleum products that the chud is too stupid to consider: fertilizer and plastics. We've already seen major shortages of PE and PETE for manufacturers in Asia. We're looking at a major shortage of fertilizer. While the US may dodge famine, food prices WILL increase substantially this summer, and we will likely see shortages for which replacement goods are available ( but more expensive).

Trump will leave office the most hated politician in US history.

1) The US is a net oil exporter. This was not true in the 70s.
2) Most people have options for working from home and so they're able to reduce gasoline usage in response to high prices. This was not the case in the 70s.
3) There are tons of options for entertaining yourself at home, so people can reduce gas usage in response to high prices without sitting around all day and being bored. This was not true in the 70s.
4) Technology exists to blend ethanol into gasoline. Ordinarily this is more expensive to due, but when gas prices are high we can replace up to 15% of the gasoline supply with ethanol. This was not possible in the 70s.
5) We can now make some petroleum products out of things other than oil, such as biodiesel. This was not true in the 70s.
6) We have a greater capacity to interconvert between grades of fuel. IE, it's now possible to convert diesel into gas with pretty high efficiency. This was not true in the 70s and, when combined with points 4 and 5, allows the conversation of non-oil feedstocks into fuel, then the interconversion of other fuels to whatever there is a shortage of. This was not possible in the 70s.

Have you heard a single news article mention OPEC recently? They have completely lost their control over the oil market. Zero relevance whatsoever in current year. In the 1970s, they basically ruled the world.

Also, Saudi Arabia's cross-country pipeline appears to be working tremendously well. Most of the oil that would usually go through the hormussy is being pumped to the Red Sea.

>>533718548

>>
>>533716873
That was the plan. OPEC crisis only happened because the cheap low tech oil boom in north america mostly ended.

Now OPEC can get fucked in the ass with SAGD and fracking.

We have built our economy around subsidizing the profits of oil/gas companies... who happen to be the most profitable companies in the world.

That's stagflation retard. Diluting your currency won't let you purchase more oil when the fundamental problem is that there's less of the stuff available.

It's still way under the real price. The physical price of oil is like 150 per barrel right now and the paper is like 97 or some shit. Same with silver. The paper market says silver is 78 dollars an ounce but the real adjusted for inflation and supply demand would put it well over 300 an ounce. Paper games.
>>
>>533727411
The difference between oil and silver is the size of the reserves or de facto reserves compared to the industrial demand. Both oil and silver are now operating at a deficit but we will have oil shortages this year. They can’t hide it much longer it’s already happening pretty much everywhere else in the world
>>
>>533716873
>Why hasn’t the US experienced the pain of the 1970s Oil Shortage?
