An example is the greek gods and many pantheons became more universalist and unilateral over time to meet the reality in shifting power from oligarchal consular structures to unitary kings/emporers or centralized bureaucracy thus monotheism and the like. All of the gospels and what not are allegorical representations of philosophical truths, superior to those that came before.
