Yes. Ngl I want to like the whole rammed earth building material idea, I really do. Everything about it is incredible from an engineering, economic, ergonomic, health, etc. perspective. But it just feels kinda soulless imo. If there was a way we could get classical European architecture via rammed earth construction I’d be frothing at the mouth to make the norm. Maybe some molds to give it more natural shape and character

this just isn't true. not that it isn't possible to get a piece of property and do this. but a wood mill costs a couple grand. if you're making bricks the machine is cheaper, but you need to heat the bricks in a kiln for days. then add on the cost of solor panels and all of a sudden you're looking at a 10k price tag just to start, plus the cost of the land. it's certainly doable - I'm doing something like it right now - but it does require some capital up front and it takes a little time to become comfortable

it's clay-rich soil, straw and sand. you mix it and add water until it's moldable then literally just mold the shape you want, in this case the walls of your house. this is called cob, common in england.
no kiln required, it dries in the sun.
adobe is a similar recipe but you mold it into bricks then leave them to dry in the sun and build with them. you use mortar made from the same soil and it just works.
the main issue with building with these materials is the building codes. adobe and cob is not allowed in many western countries despite outperforming modern buildings in heat retention and structural integrity.
why? because building codes were written by timber and concrete companies to force landowners to use their materials. building a house in a month from the soil beneath your feet for a few thousand dollars is not profitable for the banks, building companies or material companies, hence why it is not allowed. you will own nothing and rent forever.

My knowledge of construction doesn't exceed kindergarten popsicle stick level. But if you had a clay house with a clay foundation could you not carve out a pit in the middle with a chimney going up and burn wood to heat the center which would radiate heat to warm up the surrounding clay house?
I'm not expert but it at least is making sense in my head. Center would radiate heat and not be exposed to direct cold exterior walls is my logic at least so it would result in minimal heat loss from cold/hot fighting in the wall.

i also forgot the exterior is covered in plaster. lime something or other idk it protects the walls from rain and gives it the really smooth look. deep eaves are used to protect the walls from rain as well.
i plan to try this one day, hopefully it goes well lol.

But it looks actually cool. Your american houses are made from plastic foil, drywall and tar paper no?
>>
>>533809920
>>533809589
Yeah, just do a rocket stove and you're fine for very little fuel. If you're on the grid you can just use electric heating efficiently as well. Adobe is thermal mass, so it changes temp slowly. It's not that the adobe only repels heat, it's that it resists changing temperature. So the inside stays more consistent than the outside. If you just attached a regular HVAC system to it, it works more efficiently at that.

On every metric it's better than a stick and drywall house. No unnatural materials, better insulation, and more resilient.
>But R-value!
Like many measurements, made to ensure you pick the "right" choice; the pink fiberglass, 2x4s and drywall that the Mexican/Guatemalan crew already knows how to do.
>>
>>533809528

From there architect it how you want, you could do soft lighting architecture for that modern white look, or give it wood beams or a top to give it a more medieval Euro look.

>>533807510
Speaking of thermal, cooling is also a solved issue you can apply to Adobe styled homes.

And berry bushes that increase your fertile and give you even more free food

Water through rainwater collection or well drilling.

We have ALL the tools to check out of society and exist in peace away from society. But several of these things became regulated in certain states because lobbying by big industries. The perfect heating furnace and adobe would practically kill heating and home costs.

Dirt+Straw+Sand Adobes are actually stronger and better insulated than concrete. The government also got bought out by big lumber and textile mills to make them illegal unless you add an X amount of rebar to them making them cost more than lumber, and ironically making the adobes weaker.
>>
you guys realize that you can build an adobe home and cover it with vinyl siding and it will look just like an average American home. except probably for the larger eaves of the roof.

every time when one searches for "adobe homes" it will always show clumsy one room round houses built by hippies on weed or worse, women.

these homes were built by a group of villagers all-together since it takes tremendous effort to build one. one cannot build one by himself, except probably he makes adobe bricks day by day and stores them in a car port until he got thousands of them all ready to build. Westerners build traditionally with wood because a) it was in abundance in the forests of NW Europe and b) people are individualistic and only a few are required to get the job done, some even built their own cabins by themselves.

Anyone actually wanting to build their own house needs to consider location and climate. There is a fantastic out of print book that gives an excellent look into how different cultures and even animals build shelter in different climates to take advantage of natural features and overcome drawbacks. A Sketchbook of Shelters by John S Taylor. Expensive and out of print, but someone shows it on YouTube:
