The story arc of final fantasy 1 and final fantasy 3 on the original nintendo, actually came to pass, and so the Japanese people who picked the story for those games had the vision we're all looking for. The architect of the Chaos terrorizing the entire world, is found at the church down the street by your house where you were born. The Jews who claim to be Jews but are not Jews.

I think it has good replay value and enough depth in the game for people to try playing it different ways, but I don't know how open it is, would think it's pretty linear overall.

FFX was released around the apex of Nihon civilization. At this point, I have reason to believe their creative types had largely unshackled themselves from their inferiority complex towards the west, which paved the way for a game with a truer and more potent Asiatic spirit. There was of course a resonance between the game's spirit and that of their own. A lovely, thoroughly human harmony was produced, and instantly recognized by humans the world over. Importantly, the corporate and technological limitations left the game with holes (not only narratively), which would've been invisible to the normies who only saw the "cutting edge". Like geothermal vents, universally tuned autists spawned upon and suckled the rich gasses of leaking potential, the original vision of the auteurs. If you know, you know. Few works hit the same chords.
