US troops looted the fuck out of Europe in WW2, it was policy. Anything you could lug to the post exchange they would ship back for you, or allow a certain quota of war booty. There were procedures on how to get personal weapons captured from the enemy sent home. So much so that even today, I regularly find those things at yard sales around here. Sometimes pretty amazing things. Like a suitcase full of European cash and bonds from the 20's and 30's. But they weren't taking toilets lol.
