The jews, and their shabbos ruling class made use of women's natural inability to settle for less than the best by convincing them that being with a man who isn't rich is oppression. The point was to eliminate the middle class as competition for finance and women, while also rendering them too weak and divided to ever resist the ever increasing power grabs of jews and their shabbos. They don't fall victims to this, because the women of the ruling class have to tow the line if they want to get their inheritance. There's no such tether for middle class women.
