you're thinking cheap instead of frugal. a frugal gf is clearly not going to be expensive and together, as man and wife, you can raise kids in a frugal (but not cheap) manner. thats what we do.

i met a cheap greek one time, in Greece. he was traveling around on a bicycle and used to go into churches along the way taking the olive oil that people leave to run all the little oil lamps they have in those places. he used to eat that instead of shoplifting bottles of oil because they were too big.....but he did shoplift packets of meat and stuff. then he'd go into a city at night and look for a free place to sleep, usually some kind of squatters property where the drunks stay.

he ended up threatening to kill me when he was high on weed so i moved on. funny guy

Using the dishwasher conserves far more water than hand washing. Energy too, if you're hand washing with hot water.

buy a dishwasher, they use less water than hand washing.

not if you do it in a frugal manner. i see people who leave the water running the whole time and that uses far more.

Who the fuck goes out in the year 2026 if he isn't loaded or at least comfortable? I don't even like going out. They stuff your food with sugar and sneeds, kitchen hygiene is also a gamble. Maybe I'm a bit peculiar when it comes to stuff like that, but that's just the biggest waste of money for me. Even if a friend or family member invites me, I will always try to suggest having a nice dinner home instead. Fuck eating subpar slop for 25 bucks, I can have a steak dinner for two at home for that money. If I was in America, I wouldn't eat out no matter how much money I have, fuck that compulsory tipping shakedown.

>>533907829
i never liked that so much those we dry the kids stuff that way because they alwys need it again soon. with a wood stove its not really a problem with the humidity i guess.

we do dry clothes outside during the winter though and it works pretty well because of the dry air. takes a bit long of course but for most stuff theres no rush.

a wood stove is a great frugal was to heat too. i close a couple upstairs rooms off through the winter as well because they aren't used day to day. saves a lot of wood. used to close the entire upstairs off when the kids were small and sleeping downstairs with us.

Also learn diy skills. My sister will throw out appliances and buy new ones every few years. My wife and I have a 12 year old KitchenAid that we have had to tear down and repair/replace a few parts over the years but it still works. Literally a fun thing to do while having coffee in the morning.
Sons switch had a cracked screen? 1 hour replacement.
Car brakes and oil changes and some other repairs... One afternoon and literally parts and beer vs $500+ at the repair shop.
Learn to do maintenance early. Far cheaper to do small diy jobs or pay someone $200 a year to maintain your boiler than paying for emergency services to repair it.

I'm terrified of carbon monoxide poisoning. I know that chances are very low with a wood stove, but something like an open fireplace would be out of the question for me. I knew some boomer Jugos who bought a house once they were in pension, they were uneducated village hicks, but nice people. They didn't really know how to heat safely with a fireplace, probably never heard of carbon monoxide poisoning, you can guess what happened a couple of weeks after they moved in.

Yes. Seasoning is good, don't get me wrong. If I'm baking or grilling chicken for a Wednesday night dinner, I'll sprinkle some garlic salt or some other seasoning. But if I want to replicate the kind of meal I get at a restaurant, I'll do more with real ingredients and extra work that brings flavor. I'll still use salt, pepper, etc. basic things like that. But a Sunday roasted chicken can taste amazing without ever using "McCormick Sunday roast chicken seasoning" or anything else other than salt and butter.
>>
>>533908709
>because its nice to reward people who are working low end jobs if they do a good job, are polite, pleasant people.
Why? They're compensated by their employer for the work that perform, which comes from the revenue taken from the customer in exchange for the service provider. I'm not paying extra for no reason. Imagine applying this concept to other occupations and giving some roads worker a fiver because he's "doing a good job".
>>
>>533906706
>washing dishes with natural dishwasher soap and sponge
That is much more wasteful if you want to actually wash them and now just rinse them off.
They come out sterile off the dishwasher btw
>>
>>533908700
terrible. im really not sure how it would happen with a properly installed stove, since theres basically no way for anything to flow back out of it into the room.
i was in a house once that would get some smoke blowback in very high gusty winds, but again that can be fixed with a better chimney cap.
my stove system will draw air into it even when the thing isn't lit, because its just a function of how the air pressure works.

much higher chance of CO1 problems heating with natural gas heaters.

>>533908784
oh ok so by 'seasoning; you mean some kind of premade mix out of a packet. got it. yeah i dont usually like those much anyway. reminds me of another frugality tip - dont by spices ready to use in those little jars. buy bags of cumin seeds etc and grind them in a coffee grinder or something.
for cumin here its about $6 per 60g jar. a 500g bag of cumin seeds is less than $5.

Eating more beans is a good way to cut costs without sacrificing anything really. Good fiber, good macros, it has some nice amino acids the body can turn into proteins later on.
Cooking instead of eating out is a generally good way to save a crap ton of money.
You can make some good meals for a few shekels that can last you days if it's for you alone, if not they can feed a whole family for a day with little money. Most people eat half or more than half of what money they make. A way to reduce spending is to change what one eats without sacrificing quality of life and health. Heck, some may even find it healthier because eating out is often less healthy than making your own meals
>>
>>533909456

Really cheap meal that taste amazing
Baked feta with pasta
Just add some oil to an oven pan or those rectangle glass things.
Minced garlic(few cents), cherry tomatoes (a dollar or two, you can possibly use canned cherry tomatoes but rather use the fresh ones).
Salt and pepper over them. Then place a feta brick (2-3$ worth of cheese). Add a little bit of oil and salt and pepper over it.
Bake for like 20 minutes or until tomatoes and cheese are soft.
Boil some pasta in the meantime (like a dollar worth of spiral pasta or something).
Mix the feta and tomatoes, crush the tomatoes and feta until mix. Add pasta and a little bit of pasta water as needed.
Amazing meal and it's cheap. Feeds 4.
Throw some other protein lile grilled chicken breast or something similar for extra protein and filling.

a pressure cooker is a great thing to use for frugal cooking too. cooks so many things very much quicker than an open pan boiling away. you can cook a lot of beans, for example, in about 12 minutes under pressure compared to 2x that at least normally. rice is done in just a few minutes.

What exactly is "short term savings"? So if I buy a discounted product that's for short term? Fuck off please.
>>
>>533906706
>using light from the router and washing machine ligths to go to bathrooom at night
keeping your washing machine always on on standby is much costlier than turning on a 2w lightbulb for 10 minutes per day
>>
>>533909930
to me it means things like buying the cheapest power tool because the price looks good but it breaks quickly, or avoiding small repair costs that eventually mean much more expensive repair costs, stuff like that.
short term thinking instead of longer term consequence awareness.
>>
>>533906706
Is this a sneaky attempt to legitimize tips? Putting this shit into the "good things people do" cateory as opposed to "bad thing"? How about YOU stop being cheap and pay your employees?
>>
>>533910143
No i mean while its working, or opening just the led screen for a bit then closing it again
>>
>>533910153
Also maybe blackfriday products etc have lower manufacturing quality. Same model name, different quality. In cars too it happens from country market to market
>>
>>533909930
You buy the discounted meat, instead of the larger frozen slab of it(which also costs less per kg than the discounted one).

>>533907403
>As does living in a smaller home (but becomes less convenient when you have kids).
Only as long as the house market supports said size.
Once it no longer do, that is no longer a option. And you have the choice between living with several flatmates for almost the same money, or paying 3x just to have a guest bedroom so you can perform normal family/fried visit features.
>>
>>533909761
I use an instapot because it's extremely convenient. Best use for 100$.
I have even made tonkotsu ramen with it.
>>533909752
GMS is actually not bad but the problem is that some fast food chains and other use way too much of it. GMS is naturally found in meats, eggs, fish and milk/cheese. Your tongue can directly feel 4 flavours but the 5th is a chemical your body detects and whatever it's on your body tells you to eat more. That 5th taste is "umami" and umami is tied directly to GMS because it's found in meat and meats are neither sweet, sour, bitter and barely salty.
You can use GMS at home but you ahve to know how to use it. A homemade vegetable stir fry with a little bit of GMS is amazing. Same with some homemade fried rice. Heck, you can even add a little bit to vegetable soups and creams to xhighlight" the flavours. Also as I already said, it's also found in other things, cheese specially and parmesan has a crap ton of GMS while also being mostly lactose free.
Add parmesan to anything you feel it needs a "kick" and it will turn amazing.
>>
>>533910513
hmm hadn't heard of that but i wouldnt be surprised. buying tools on offer is definitely the best way though, since the regular retail prices are always retarded.

>>
>>533908945
so i looked this since several anons said the same thing. turns out a good machine will use 3-4 gallons per load, which isn't much at all. BUT from what i can tell, the comparisons to hand washing is based on having the water constantly running into the sink. Of course, that will use a lot of water over 10-15 minutes.

i think thats a pretty shit comparison because i know f for sure that i can do a sink full of dishes on less than 4-5, because my basement water pump will kick in after drawing 5 gallons from the tank and i usually dont need it to run.

also, for me anyway, a few gallons here and there is completely irrelevant. aside from the UV bulb used each, water costs are maybe $10/month for the electricity.

>>533911464
i wouldnt marry a woman like that anon. but your claim that they dont exist is false. i hope you meet one one day...or are able to train one into being better with money at least.
