I’m actually a communist but I was rooting for the Nazis in the movie the entire time because the “heroes” behavior was so abhorrent and merciless. The movie unintentionally makes allies and Jews look extremely disgusting.

A major plot point in the movie is Goebbels' film about frederick zoller comically slaughtering allied soldiers. It's a propaganda film endorsed by Hitler and shown to an audience of Axis elites. They all laugh and enjoy seeing the slaughter. The larger plot of Inglorious Basterds is basically the same as Goebbels' movie within the film. Tarantino is drawing a comparison between the fictional audience in the film to the people actually watching the movie. Then there is the inversion of the 'good guys' and the 'bad guys'. The germans are all presented as brave, honorable, and hypercompetent. The good guys are all treacherous, unsophisticated dogs. It's a more clever film than it gets credit for, if you ask me.
