Sortition is pretty cool. You have a legislative house whose members are chosen at random from the population, serving a set term. In my ideal this service would be mandatory- you either serve or you get permanently exiled. The Athenians also had the ostracon, which was a vote every year to exile one citizen for ten years. Fucking excellent.
