Tanks are an outdated concept anyway and putting that money into FPV drones is probably a smarter move.
>>
>>533996517
Not that bad an idea, you don't want huge numbers of reserve tanks, that's a liability and a logistical drain. They just built a few in order to prove out the tooling and production processes so when they need more they can easily ramp up production

there are like 6-7 countries out there that can make tank engines. We wanted to be one as well and picked the long route.

they dont have the depleted uranium lying around for modern tank production
>>

Historical reasons. Europe industrialised rapidly during the 19th century but Turkey settled with being a dumping ground for cheap factory goods. This meant a lack of homegrown skills and infrastructure partucularly when it came to weapons tech. And so they spent a century getting buckbroken and rescued.

Depleted uranium is used for armor penetration. Our MKE produces APFSDS rounds, alledegly performing in between DM43 and DM53. Enough to take out any tank our neighbors have.

You are misinformed, they are designing & building the tank engines, transmission and mobility units locally in Ankara & Sakarya, Türkiye.

Sounds like a russian name.
Same with "turkish" "drones", very likely built by russian engineers who have vacation homes in Turkey.

>Why does Turkey suck so much at industry
Maybe because they are brown?
And historically stole , raped, sold people into slavery , and overall were good at TRADE ,
and not engineering.

burger mutt goycattle and his opinion.

funnily enough, Turkey is whiter than USA. Whites were invincible in 1940, and now they have no countries, and are going extinct.
Lesson: it's not 1940 anymore

Why is your tank named by a russian name, Altay?
It's mountains in Russia.

You are a room temperature IQ oxygen thief. the article you provide has this part;

>Altai is derived from underlying form *altañ "gold, golden" (compare Old Turkic 𐰞𐱃𐰆𐰣 altun "gold, golden") with coda -ñ underlying the -n & -y correspondence among cognates in different Turkic languages & dialects (e.g. qōñ ~ qoy "sheep", Qitan ~ Qitay "Khitans", etc.), as well as in Mongolian."

The name of the Tank comes from Turkish cavalry commander Fahrettin Altay, that enveloped and destroyed Greek armies in 1922, then entered Izmir.

Building a modern (not-Russian) tank requires a complex industry with some very specific competencies. Europe and the US practically stopped building new hulls some 20 years ago, instead choosing to refurbish and refit old ones. It took Europe 4 years to restart real production of new hulls at about ~100 a year. The US is still at ~20.

can you guys preventively nuke israel? thanks roachbros
>>
>>533996517
Its not about capability, Turkey is actually highly industrialized, probabyl second biggest in Europe.
We already have tons of tanks who gets modernized constantly. Producing high maintenance tanks we wont get to use is stupid.

Add to that general corruption and engines that are still in production/development.

>esp heavy western type tanks

Might not actually be true. It seems like the heavier a tank's armour, the better it seems to fare on the drone warfare battlefield. Challenger 2 and Stridsvagn have done well in Ukraine are notable for being very heavily armoured even compared to Leopard 2 (which Stridsvagn is a modification of) and even Abrams. If anything it's smaller less heavily armoured Russian tanks that have fared the worst, unless they're up-armoured into absurd turtle tanks, which are ineffectual for other reasons but ultimately more or less impervious to FPV drones.
