Yeah its incomprehensibly stupid and most likely only done because saudi royalty are stupid and had nearly unlimited money due to oil. At best all I can imagine is them doing this as a kind of method to develop their domestic economy into one that can take on large infrastructure projects but even that doesn't really make sense since they'd do much better in developing infrastructure that they actually need rather than this insanity, which is what every country that has developed their economies with large infrastructures did. China didn't develop its economy by building completely insane shit, yeah they built a lot of highways and buildings that are well below accectable quality levels but the highways are at least intended to serve as highways between cities that do actually exist and where people live in even though a lot of the housing is trash.

i thought maybe it was a front to build the giant ditch for it that they have dug, but i can't think of what they could use the ditch for that they don't want everyone aware of. it doesn't seem to be in any kind of defensive position.

the line requires many technologies that don't actually exist yet and they're operating under the assumption those technologies will exist in time for construction.

additionally concerning about the line, if it was built, it would be very easy to lock everyone inside, there are no entrances and exits except at the end.

Yeah but you can just build a regular city with regular buildings in them and just make them better insulated and build a bunch of underground public transportation shit. There's literally zero reasons to build one giant long ass building that goes straight into the desert. Like yeah the first part that still sort of hugs the coastline makes sense, but then it goes off into the fucking mountains. Why? Just split it up into rows and make it all near the coast.

For those that don't know, Saudi Arabia also just straight up pays their citizens cash every month as a way of redistributing oil money. Qatar also does this and so does UAE. They pay every month enough that you don't have to work if you don't want to but they pay double + give you free land if you get married.
