I think single player games were genuinely a great thing for society leading into the 00s, a lot was gained from a generation of children being raised with Zeldas and Final Fantasys. Imaginations were expanded and problem solving skills, inspiration flourished. MMORPGs were the beginning of the end though, that is where videogames became a net negative brainrot that ruined lives and killed productivity. They are also largely responsible for the decline in overall quality due to showing new methods of profitability
