Can someone explain why people think the "Trump's ear got cut by a piece of glass" theory changes anything about the event?

Like, let's grant that it's true for the sake of the argument. It STILL means that someone was shooting at Trump if the glass that cut his ear came from a teleprompter that got hit or whatever, meaning it would STILL be considered an attempted assassination, right?

Am I missing something here, or are the people who believe this just coping?
