There needs to be some discussion about how decrepit boomers have the values and goals of literal children.
>put the food pyramid upside down! (which hasn't been used in 15 years, but they remember it from their childhood)
>we have to fix Pluto not being a planet anymore!!! it wasn't like this when I was a kid!
It's the same in my country as well. They act like toddlers. They live in a parallel universe where real problems don't exist.
>>
>>534109066
the people who went along with saying pluto isnt a planet are the same people who call the flu, covid; twitter, X; and gulf of mexico, gulf of amerca.
>>
>>534109226
It is the gulf of america spic!
>>
you hear about pluto?
thats messed up
>>
Pluto will never be a planet.
>>
>>534109226
Coronaviruses cause colds, not influenza, influenza viruses are their own thing. Covid is just milder SARS.
Getting this worked up over Pluto while erasing my pal Ceres is unfair. Ceres is way cooler.
>>
>>534109226
It literally isn't a proper planet though. It's a dwarf planet. It's just an icy object in the Kuiper belt. Just like Ceres in the asteroid belt. Are we going to make Ceres a planet? If so why not Ganymede? What qualifies a planet?
>>
>>534109066
It literally is a planet though, and some faggots at NASA can't change that fact
>>
>>534109066

YES!!!!
>>
>>534109066
Finally. I've always felt that calling it a midget planet is rude and heightist
>>
>>534109550
NASA never decides on that, it's the International Astronomical Union. Don't let Trump now or he'll start renaming stars after himself and Israelis
>>
>>534109446
this upsets and confuses boomers.
there's also Eris which is more massive but slightly smaller than Pluto.
>>
>>534109550
Nah. There's other objects in our solar system nearly the size of Pluto with the same off-kilter orbit as Pluto. These are better descibed as planetoids.
>>
>>534109226
only way to classify Pluto as a planet is to simplify the definition to "it's rounded" (in hydrostatic equilibrium)
but then Ceres is also a planet
which sure, okay, but then are moons planets? if not because they orbit another planet then Pluto is not a planet again because Charon is not actually a moon, Pluto & Charon are a binary planet system where they both spin around the same center of mass rather than Charon spinning around Pluto's center of mass
>>
>>534109383
Pluto is a dog you fucking KUNT
>>
Eris is only 50km smaller than Pluto but 0.34x×10^22 kg more massive.

>>534109893
so is Goofy which is fucked up.
>>
>>534109446

I like Ceres, scientards are just too lazy, “all these other objects are planets then”, fine with me. Pluto though, has an atmosphere, it has a moon. It’s a fucking planet.

The whole Pluto problem is just the Georgium Sidus (Uranus) dilemma. They had Ceres, Juno, Vesta all labeled as planets at one point but then took a closer look and reclassified them.

>where they both spin around the same center of mass rather than Charon spinning around Pluto's center of mass
Technically that happens in any planet that has a satellite, the Earth-Moon system also rotates around a point outside the Earth's center, but just barely. It counts as a binary planet if that barycenter is outside the surface of the bigger object which is true for Pluto-Charon, so technically you could call them that.
>>
>>534110052

>>
>>534110052
Does it have a moon? Charon and Pluto are in a synchronized orbit around each other. Pluto's other moons are all more similar to each other then anything else. Calling Pluto a proper planet is wrong when it barely meets the standard set by it's neighbors. The only thing it has in common is it orbits the sun, dwarf planet fits it better then your standard classification of a planet.
>>
>>534110419
It's all just for classification, which only the autist will care about. If you label everything a planet then the list gets long, full of irrelevant data.

Then make a new rule that objects of cultural importance may be classified as planets even if not meeting the defined threshold - after public demand.

Appearing in both lists, one scientifically accurately presenting reality based strictly on the formerly mentioned criteria and the other one being our main "9" in the solar system. Problem solved.

We shouldn't be calling worlds after their orbital characteristics anyway because these things can change.
What if the Earth gets blown up. Then the Moon becomes a "planet" and children would have to learn it that way now? And then it gets captured by Venus or something and it's no longer a planet and we have to rewrite the schoolbooks AGAIN.
Who the fuck came up with that system.

>>
>>534112266
And Eris is bigger than Pluto
>>
>>534109772
Eris mass is not confirmed to be greater than Pluto. It has no moon, so its mass estimate has wide error bars.

And even then, as you say its slightly smaller than Pluto. So you can just but the size threshhold as Pluto's radius. Everything bigger is a planet. That would give us the original 9 planets. Ceres and the Kuiper belt shit are all smaller.
>>
>>534112361
Make Erics a planet and fuck Pluto.
>>
>>534109810
No. Pluto has a much larger radius than Ceres. If you put the size cutoff at Pluto, you get the 9 planets and no one else.
>>
>>534109066
What's this, performative retardation?
>>
>>534112454
Why the fuck would you define a planet by radius instead of mass, the metric that actually matters graviationally?
>>
>>534109171
As a Greek, you should be used to this type of corruption. These people are paid hundreds of thousands of dollars to sit in government or research roles, and this is the slop that they "achieve."
>>
>>534112361
Not in width. And maybe not in mass. Eris has no moon (the easiest way to measure mass) so the error bars on its mass are large, and Pluto's mass is within the error bar.

Pluto should be a planet. Eris should be listed as a potential planet pending further observations.
>>
>>534112458
How was reclassifying Pluto any less retarded?

It's because of the discoveries of these things, that we relegated Pluto out of planet category.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Neptunian_object
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sednoid
I suppose previous conceptions of the solar system imagined smaller and smaller planets in further and further distances, but the reality is, once the rocks get smaller, they also get more numerous.
>>
>>534109066
Planet USA?
>>
>>534110935
Come on man, don't give them ideas
>>
>>534110419
well the problem is no matter how you definte it, there aren't 9 planets anymore, because the definition wasn't precise enough. Either we include a bunch of things that weren't planets before, or don't include Pluto. The logic being that removing pluto would cause the least amount of uproar from the scientifically illiterate tard cucks who vote.

just to be clear, the controversy only exists amongst people who unironically think that they've learned enough stuff. They're upset you're making them learn new stuff.

If they just name that new 9th Planet Pluto, then all is forgiven.
>>
>>534112510
Because it gives you a definition that includes Pluto and not Eris. And even if you go by mass, Eris should only be a potential planet. The error bars on its mass are very large, since it has no moon and is very far. Pluto lies within the error bars on Eris, so there is a >34% chance Pluto is more massive.
