What's pol opinion on the protein trend? It's pretty much the new gopslop nowadays, companies are putting protein in everything now. Since this trend started, I started eating even less protein now since all of this looks shady.
I do great on Keto/Carnivore diet, did shit on vegan diet.
i lift weights, so it's good for me (if it's even absorbed and used), but unnecessary for most

>>534133498Why's it a trend? Proteins are necessary, they're the building blocks of the body. Every tissue and organ is made out of them. Without sufficient protein people start to waste away. Carbs are just energy and nothing more. The body can even produce its own carbs through various mechanisms, converting both proteins and fats to carbs for the necessary functions. Ask any AI for confirmation. Fats are also necessary. They aren't called essential amino acids for no reason. Ever heard of an essential carb? No, because it doesn't exist. But there are extremes, as with everything. Overeating one single thing can only lead to a bad outcome. Same deal with drinking too much water. You drink 10L in one sitting and you die. It can be the best and freshest and tastiest spring or mineral water in existence and it will still kill you if you have too much. The tl;dr is basically to eat 1g of proteins for 1g of body weight, unless you're morbidly obese, in which case stop eating entirely. After that, eat however many carbs and fats that pleases you within your daily caloric limit for whatever activities you do so you don't get fat. Increase protein intake if you're working out or doing manual labor. That's all.

>>534133498They are trying to get people more accustomed to the extra protein supplement in food and eventually they will ratchet up the prices or move "ok" protein to more expensive items. Then they will replace the old protein with cheaper and/or alternative protein like onions, whey, or bugs. By then it'll either be pay an extra $2.00 per item for something that tastes the same as the cheaper option. It's all essentially trying to do the Beyond Meat/Impossible Burger cultural shift but with a much longer and slower plan.
