Why is it that some men I know have an insatiable thirst for knowing, and are titilated by ideas and history and science, but other people I know are completely disinterested in the wider world for the most part? It's like some people are not only content with ignorance, but feel no drive or enjoyment from becoming enlightened. What's the key psychological difference that causes this?

If a person without awareness is made simple, then he may only cultivate awareness through a crisis; his needs must be taken away, his actions must be fruitless (or even cause further frustration), and only then will he start to become more aware.
