Neither of these scenarios is actual conquest, both are just different methods of resource extraction for the benefit of the elites of the Western countries. Whites were led to believe that they were the ones who conquered the natives, when in fact they were merely foot soldiers for the elites that used them as tools of colonization. Some lowbrow whites might believe it was done for their benefit, but it had always been just for profits of the ruling class, which never cared about common soldiers, their nationality or religion. Today the same elites invite foreigners to their countries for cheap labour to profit from and whites cannot wrap their head around the idea that this doesn’t constitute elites betraying them - they simply were never on their side. Back then they were useful as pawns to colonize more land and people to profit from, so that is who they used. Now it’s practical to invite the colonized to their countries, so they do not need whites to do the military job anymore. The sooner whites realize this, the sooner they will be able to dissociate from colonization altogether, which was never done by them or for them, and start amending relations with non-whites. But this is not very likely to happen, because the concept of "we conquered the world" strokes the egos of commoners too much to let go, even though it ultimately does nothing but undermine their own future. So, they will cling to it no matter what and keep wandering, why exactly the elites have suddenly turned their backs on them.
