I've been a fan of that theory for many years. Technically any aliens who have FTL travel are performing a kind of time travel. There are also theories that time is like a stack and it's searchable, so you might be able to move to different times as easily as we move on a directional axis. They might have access to the time axis of our reality and move back or forward whenever they want. But if that's the case then I think it's a strong indicator that we live in a matrix reality or a simulation, whatever you want to call it.
