I find it baffling that other Europeans treat Germany’s current economic struggles as if it is none of their business. In reality, the Eurozone is structured like Atlas from Greek mythology where Germany single-handedly hoists the entire European economy on its shoulders.The reason countries with debt-to-GDP ratios exceeding 100% such as France,Italy,spain,portugal and greece have not faced total bankruptcy is solely because they share the Euro with Germany. The market lends them money at interest rates far lower than their actual creditworthiness justifies based on the unwavering belief that Germany will never let the Eurozone collapse.Furthermore, the European Central Bank effectively acts as a financial lifeline by purchasing the sovereign debt of these nations using Germany’s immense capital and credit as a backstop. It means, Germany’s credit rating is in effect the oxygen mask keeping the Eurozone alive.Given this reality, for other Europeans to mock Germany’s downturn is no different from looking in a mirror and laughing at themselves
