She did a lot of crystallography work on the structure of DNA, but neither she nor anyone else working in Wilkins group could elucidate the actual structure, effectively all the Kings group was doing was constantly taking newer pictures of DNA and hoping this time someone would have a breakthrough. Crick and Watson at Cavendish had started working on a theoretical model, much of their work was independent of anything happening at Kings. There was some overlap, obviously, since they weren't many academics working on DNA structure at the time and even fewer in Britain. The main contribution of Franklin to Crick and Watsons work was the confirmation of the repeat distance between which confirmed their understanding of the symmetry group of the DNA helix.
