They had copies of the entire book series on the shelf at the Baptist church a girl I dated in high school attended. They watched the movies too.
>>
Yeah, when I was a kid my parents brainwashed me into believing this left behind rapture shit was real and would happen to us one day. Then I discovered astronomy and learned about stars and planets and how old the universe was and it helped me escape the brainwashing as I got older.
>>
>>534459408
Are they zionists today?
>>
>>534459408
I grew up Baptist and we did indeed watch this movie
>>
>>534459211
We were only allowed to watch Christian movies like this as a kid, had a huge stack of DVD's pre vetted, we got some breaks as we got older and borrowed DVDs from the library, I would watch R rated movies and feel like a boss that the cat lady liberal librarian let me take it. I remember all these doomsday rapture type movies, it fucked with my head. Part of me still thinks I'll rot in hell for sex, swearing, lust, and shit posting.

No TV, just a DVD player, christian music and movies. Crazy how some people are living in isolated areas homeschooling their kids with the same stuff but x10

>The Rapture is an eschatological (end-times) concept held by some Christians, particularly those of American evangelicalism, consisting of an event when all dead Christian believers will be resurrected and, joined with Christians who are still alive, together will rise "in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air."[1][2]

>Many different timelines have been asserted which tie to ideas of a seven-year Great Tribulation (e.g. pretribulation,[3] midtribulation, prewrath, and posttribulation raptures) and to a thousand year age of Messianic rule (Millennialism) (premillennialism, postmillennialism, amillennialism, preterism).[4][5]

>The origin of the term extends from the First Epistle to the Thessalonians in the Bible, which uses the Greek word harpazo (Ancient Greek: ἁρπάζω), meaning "to snatch away" or "to seize". The idea of a rapture as it is defined in dispensational premillennialism is not found in historic Christianity and is a relatively recent doctrine originating from the 1830s.

>Most Christian denominations, and the numerically largest, do not subscribe to rapture theology and have a different interpretation of the aerial gathering described in 1 Thessalonians 4.[6] They do not use rapture as a specific theological term, nor do they generally subscribe to the dispensational theology associated with its use.[7] Instead they typically interpret rapture in the sense of the elect gathering with Christ in Heaven directly after the Second Coming and reject outright the idea that a large portion of humanity will be left behind on earth for an extended tribulation period after the events of 1 Thessalonians 4:17.[6][8]

It's pretty fucking nutty to think that a loosely organized Christian fringe group located almost exclusively in the American south created meme version of Christianity that dominated pop culture for so long that most of the secualr western world now thinks that all Christians actually believe in shit like the rapture and the biblical importance of modern day Isreal.
>>
>>534460968
>a loosely organized Christian fringe group located almost exclusively in the American south
Evangelicals are the largest religious group in the USA, comprising around a quarter of the population

That's what the movie's about.

I think it's a severe form of child abuse to tell kids this stuff is real, it's going to happen soon, and that you can do nothing to stop it. Read up on "rapture anxiety". Millions of kids live with that well into adulthood, and some don't ever fully break away from it. Thinking that any minute now, you could be left behind in a doomed world that's going to go through the most nightmarish bloodshed, famine and disease the world has ever seen. All of it as a precursor into being cast into a place of everlasting torture screaming in agony for ever and ever. It's such a twisted worldview to inculcate children with.
>>
>>534461219
yeah but i want to know what the plot is about. does it show the world getting oppressed by the anti christ?
>>
>>534461358
That's the point, to traumatize you and make you easier to control. All religions are control mechanisms. It's all about getting you to submit, and to surrender your ability to think for yourself.
>>
>>534461470
Not in the first movie IIRC
I think it's mostly the initial chaos

Evangelicals =/= dispensationalists.
>>
>>534461612
The majority of evangelicals are Zionists who believe in the Rapture

This movie is real

>Lorna Hajdini: Put it in.
Chirayu Rana: [Looking at a mirror] Oh God, I can't do this.
>Lorna Hajdini: Come on. I want you inside me.
Chirayu Rana: Oh no no no. I can't do this. I'm not gonna do this.
>Lorna Hajdini: Now, Now!
Chirayu Rana: No. No. NO! NO!
>Lorna Hajdini: You can't stop. You just can't stop! You stick your dick in my mouth and NOW you get an attack of morality?
>Lorna Hajdini: [turning mad as Chirayu leaves] Oh, you son-of-a-bitch. You get back in here and finish what you started. Do you hear me? Do you hear me?
[Chirayu ignores her as heads down the stairs]
>Lorna Hajdini: You get back in here and finish what you started or you're fuckin' dead. You are FUCKIN' DEAD!

I vaguely remember reading some interesting analysis of the books and their popularity. Wish I could remember who wrote it. They broke down the clever marketing behind it all and how it was engineered to appear like the popularity was organic or grassroots. There were (fake) stories planted everywhere of readers who somehow ALWAYS "found" the first book, like as if it was somekind of divine intervention. The stories were always like "I was in the hospital helping my mother with her chemo treatment, and underneath a pile of magazines I saw the worn edges of what appeared to be a book out of the corner of my eye...and that moment changed my life...." Real obvious, fake shit, but so many stories like that. iirc they were probably circulated through chain emails since it was the late 90s/00s.

This is how I was raised. My grandmother drove this into my head as a small child, saying how "the world would end" and that I "would burn in hell forever" if I wasn't a good boy, and I have severe anxiety & depression to this day. She would also "speak in tongues" and all that other bullshit. I was an atheist from ages 11-31, and I ended up finding The LORD on my own. I do not believe in this rapture nonsense, but I absolutely love apocalyptic media.
>>
>>534459622
I distinctly remember circa 2005 my Grandma complaining that our local library had these books in the fiction section. She said, "what next are they going to put the Bible in the fiction section too?"

Yeah especially the live action bits. They're much higher quality than contemporary Command and Conquer games. It's really bizarre.
