Marion upsets me because it's house prices are sticking above 200k+ for anything livable, but it's just as out of the way as Pulaski, etc. It was the furthest north we could go when my wife wanted to live near the Tri-cities down there but that whole area is tough for a first time home buyer to get into.

>>534467777The region, from a living here perspective, is very tied to aging/poverty. Rent is pinned to SSI/Section8/Disability for anything "nice/new" and is 1200 a month. Whereas normal working people wage is low enough that you can find shittier places for $600 a month that aren't as nice that normal people can live in. Like I live in a place that has stairs that old people can't climb so it's dirt cheap. This distinction translates across a lot of the strata so you have either nicer almost fancy stuff from the influx of LGBTQ that's riding the gentrification wave hoping to collect up all the younger families moving here. But the majority of it is still the dirt cheap $10 for a full meal style "slop". My wife sells at farmers markets in the area (hence why I drive through Marion at all), and there are a pathetic number of actual FOOD trucks, because people are simply unwilling/unable to pay much more than $10 a plate, even at a fair. But you can find a hotdog cart or other quick fry cheap readily. I'm REALLY hoping with that much development to my area that we're going to get more successful things like Purple Cactus, etc. but this contention manifests as $200k "starter home" in a town where most people make under $15/hr. because the area LOOKS like it can sustain the old-people-money level when it cannot. My wife's just gotten super good at chinese and now knows how to make Greek and a few other necessary flavor additions that make the weekly meals bearable.
Idk only thing to do around here is go hunting and fishing and then get fucking hounded by state police faggots 24/7. Thinking about moving to Florida.

Here, yeah, t feels like discount here means amazon return pallet reseller or something which I had no idea existed. That and the perma-breakfast every day social lingering that old people around here used to do in every possible semi-third space diner around. I don't like people and there's no "worth" in a server/customer interaction because there has always been no depth and nowadays there's no interaction. Scratch that I ate at a hardees last week driving through somewhere and the lady kept happening to clean near our table, asked if we were here for a race, and then repeatedly told us she has 4 kids and her power is out and a previous customer gave her a $100 tip. There's no worth in the cooking or food because it's doable at home, often better, and without the fat/salt. Private equity did a fucking NUMBER on the US. It's prudent, simply because of how they function, to avoid anything they own not through boycotting or objection but simply because the quality drops near-immediately. The change to homecooking that caused sealed the deal for many. Eating out is like going to starbucks for coffee now. An intentionally ruined product so you have to buy extras and are expected to want to pay more got the luxury.
