Lightning kills about 24,000 people a year.
Why is it so high? What's the deal?
>>
>>534478386
its really fast and hard to dodge
>>
This is why I don't go outside
>>

1.4BILLION strikes per year.
Up to 1billion volts per strike.
The absolute fucking madness.

The Wrath of Ogun!
>>
>>534478386
people who died from lightning were targeted by god himself
it just means you need to leave
>>
>>534478386
>If you are outside during a thunderstorm, each strike has a 0.00001% chance of htting you, instantly maiming you for life or killing you outright
Bit unnerving, innit?
>>
i wonder what the statistics actually are. most people aren't walking around outside when it's storming out so lightning strikes on people is probably significantly less rare
>>
>Ground Current (Step Potential): This causes the most injuries and deaths. When lightning strikes a tree or the ground, the energy travels along the surface, entering a person’s legs and passing through their body.
That makes more sense now.

Yeah and i guess if you're stuck outside in a thunderstorm wtf are you supposed to do? if you stand under a tree its dangerous, if you stand out in the open its dangerous.
>>
>>534479938
they say that laying down is safest
>>
>>534479938
so it happens to a bunch of shoeless and flip flop wearing turd worlders
>>
>>534478386
Many annoying people.
>>
>>534479938
oh, and not playing golf

>step potential.
yeah they teach you about that in preparation for certain jobs and its pretty interesting. the voltage is different as distance from the source increases, so if you're near a downed powerline or soemthing the idea is to either not move or to shuffle, keeping your feet together. unless you're good at hopping.

Yup but atheists want you to believe God isn’t real by the way

Fake news:

>in the United States, lightning kills about 20–30 people annually based on recent 10-year data, with fatalities dropping below 20 in some recent years.

In India people are dying of diptheria and heart attacks and local witch doctors says "hmmm lightning god must have strucketh him down"
