When him and I had a blow up years later and I was quit/fired I got on the phone to his competitor and had a new job the next day for more money and better benefits. I think he knew my original boss would cool down and rehire me if he didn't strike while the iron was hot. Anyway, that's really hard to do when you have algorithms controlling what resumes get through, no direct way to speak with owners, and your government moving jobs overseas, and also bringing in hordes of scab labor.
