Im not a fan of UBI, but how can you pay someone below poverty wages, call it UBI, then claim "it doesn't work"? Pay someone $120k per year, then tell me "it doesnt work"

buddy UBI is likely one of several payments that dumb nigger rich whore was collecting. In case you don't know how this works they get
>child care coverage
>disability
>food stamps
>tax breaks
>UBI on top of it

I know several people irl who are doing this in canada and they clear 80k a year and they bitch and moan just about as much as you would expect. Bonus points if you're like 25%+ native american because then you literally get free college as much as you want until you're 30 and you also get free housing, as in you will be given a house for free. Guess who still ends up broke and fucked over whining for more gibs?

Give money to people who doesn't produce anything to exchange for actual product and services.

I'm sure this will work on a larger scale, and if it doesn't, it means we didn't cut the check large enough.

Why only $120k a year you chud, we should pay them all $250k, no $600k a year!!!

Lost in the discussion about UBI is a very simple reality:

The government issues the money. It doesn't need its own money unit from the population. It never needs to borrow. It spends its own money unit into existence.

The government can, at any time, simply buy all of the unemployment within the economy.

A very simple solution would be to pay unemployed, underemployed, unhappily employed people in the general economy to build their own housing as a government initiative.

There really isn't any need whatsoever to keep interacting with existing landlords or their properties at all. We clearly have the raw materials to build more housing. We clearly have newer building techniques that can lower the skill threshold we need to train certain workers to. The government creates the money, so funding for this is never the issue. Despite the massive injection of cash, it would be clearly deflationary because of how many new assets it would create.

Just drown landlords in supply.

I am currently selling an investment property. I gave landlording a go for a year. Rent is not where your money comes from. You get nothing from rent after tax and expenses. You would be better off selling the property and putting it into bonds. Where the money comes from for a landlord is that a bank will lend you money. With borrowed money, after multiple decades you sell the property and have been protected against inflation and have a lump sum. Since the property i own doesnt have a mortgage I was wasting my time. I can sell it now. There is no advantage to keeping it for 10 or 20 more years. The money made from rent is negligible. With this sum of money I can make a real investment. Put money into my pension, pay down the mortgage on my house and invest in ETFs. Real investments.

The boomer generation were obsessed with property. Anyone doing it now is a sucker.

Why would people not be willing to exchange their goods for the money? You're not making any sense at all. The entire reason why the money has value is because 1) you need it to pay taxes and 2) there is a demonstrated need for a common currency.

I am describing how the system already works. This is not new thinking. This is how it works -- whether people who pine for the gold standard like it or not.
>>534483625
>inefficient

>>

The irish government pays some or all of people's rents now if you are unemployed or on low wages. Of course this isnt actually enough money to rent. An incentive for people to work and seek more money while still suppressing wages. Of course some people wont work anyway. So effectively there is a lottery for them to get free homes. Tends to go to single mothers. Then there are people who earn enough to rent but the government have introduced a permanent rent freeze. The incentive is to build. New builds can charge what they like.so its a huge mess. Anything new will have the highest possible rents. If you are poor you face waiting a long time to find a home. If you can buy its expensive but okay.
>>
>>534484424
Im not a landlord. Landlords do lots of work for low pay. Im selling. Im going to get lots of money for no work then reinvest in something not completely retarded. What kind of moron would do all this work for only the promise of money decades from now when there are much better investments that promise even more money, decades from now? Pension for example.

>>534484537
>Of course this isnt actually enough money to rent. An incentive for people to work and seek more money while still suppressing wages.
It actually sounds like it is a handout to private landlords. The private sector won't and can't create enough demand on its own (precisely because of the profit incentive that requires the elimination of external costs like labor), so the captured government steps in so make sure the private landlord still keeps getting paid.

The government could just as easily run the housing itself.
>>
UBI is gay but replacing all or virtually all welfare with Negative Income Tax is based and cost-effective
For example, here it is shown as cost-positive in the UK
https://martin-farley.medium.com/how-a-negative-income-tax-could-more-effectively-deliver-a-basic-income-ec6e14d24c22
>>
>>534484669
The irish governments wants it both ways. They pay the rent but decide what that is, they want private landlords to maintain the property and the government takes 52% of the rental income.
>>
>>534484669
If they ran it themselves they would be answerable to why housing sucks and is unavailable. The horrible landlords (who are quiting) are to blame of course.

You guys know we already have a massive welfare state, right? People openly talk about selling their food stamps. NGO groups get hundreds of milliions to fix homelessness and never fix anything.
DOGE was actually a great idea on paper. The execution just faultered, in part because people were obstructing it so strongly. We're talking about billions of dollars. Full of waste. AI really is taking jobs. And it's moving faster than most people realize. Amazon can trim drastically as they implement more automation and robots. Fast food is going to touch screens, apps, and ai at the drive thru.

We will need UBI if we reach a certain level of unemployment. Also, to my point, we're already spending big.. we just need to optimize the money. Get creative even. Put people to work..

typical policy illiterate OP
frist off, 20k isn't high enough to constitute UBI if the person isn't working, in the exception of a case where housing costs are negligble. Secondly, one of the foremost benefits of UBI is that it doesn't provide marginal disincentive to work near a qualification threshold. In other words, labor is actually encouraged relative to the current set of entitlements in most places. You fundamentally misunderstood this and tried to gloat, but you made yourself look like a retard instead. You may have made a coherent point against pro-UBI people who are similarly confused and retarded, but that's not something noteworthy.

"They did an experiment and it failed" is the UBI spin version of "We did a study that shows vaccines are safe".

Remember, up to the point of current taxation UBI is just a tax cut.
If the govt gave you a tax break equal to what you currently pay in taxes, you'd probably be ecstatic. If it's called "UBI" you sperg out because you've been programmed to respond to words that way.

Your stance is only valid if water, energy, land, food, and all raw materials are held and allocated for the public good. There's a deeper underlying problem anon. It's paying worthless eaters a cut of what the robots produce so that it guarantees that they breed like rats and the people that design and build robots do not.
>>
>>534480911
Soldiers get a 20,000 bonus or more all the time when they sign up. It doesn't matter when even soldiers can't get a job outside the service, and they can't a lot of the time. Most of them have to land a contracting job after the service. This isn't how UBI works and you're probably going to regret in the next 4 years gradually that you posted this.
>>
>>534492755

>>
>>534493733
Well, again, respectfully, it's not really a separate issue. To the robot-builders, you and I are also the 3rd world.
>>
>>534493696
Well if you'll probably always have some small amount of labor from people, but there won't be "enough" of that work to employ anywhere close to the whole population, even a population free of mass migrants. So a handful of people still have paychecks, but where does the rest come from? It has to come from UBI. Besides, if you're going to posit that that level of automation exists, you have to look at the problem from the other end: Where is the money to buy all the output of automation going to come from? Almost nobody can have a job, so it has to come from UBI.

UBI is valid, correct policy and should be implemented. Now we're just haggling about how. Think about it: why would "the robot owners" "the rich" etc. oppose UBI if it weren't a threat do them?

Yes. Well, kinda. I only proffered the idea of guaranteed work programs because I thought it would be more realistic to expect, but I suppose even that has the same problem of special interest opposition.

>>534494105
>why would "the robot owners" "the rich" etc. oppose UBI if it weren't a threat do them?

UBI could be compelling to... let's just call them RoboCorp for short... simply to discourage people from revolting/causing trouble. i.e. protection money. But if I were a wealthy, powerful, greedy person, why would I even leave that risk at all? Instead, I would engineer their deaths as subtly as possible... RoboCorp's goal isn't to sell products, it's to feel powerful and to exercise their will.

Again fix the rat problem before stocking the grain silo. This is 1488% a horse before the cart issue. The problem isn't even actually the rats (they functionally have no agency) It's the people that worm their way into power and prioritize their wellbeing over everyone else's at everyone else's expense. This shit only has a chance in hell of working if it's given to the actual working class and tied to a tax return. Somewhat paradoxically I do not see it as a good thing if it is not only available to those that have a job. An actual job, any job and it's got to have accountability. Otherwise you just created an even worse Minnesota daycare scam that will act like a dinner bell for the exact same "people". You're arguing from the useful idiots perspective. You aren't going to be a card carrying member as much as you think you are. If you were you would have a seat at Davos. Some where in that thick fucking skull of yours you know that this only happens after the red terror.

If you actually want it you know what has to happen beforehand. Stop the third world invasion. Expatriate as much of what's here as possible. Rout out the traitors in the government and corporate. Institute literally any kind of reasonable standard to qualify for it and the means to achieve be audited to that standard. Then test if the carrot works. If all the prerequisites are fulfilled UBI would likely not be necessary. But people like you want free shit. A man that doesn't work doesn't eat is for a fundamental reason. His name is Brian. Are all the American posters bitching about property and rent prices just lying then?
$20k USD is $27k AUD. Renting a single room in a share house costs at least $250 a week in Australia. $300 a week in the major cities where 80% of the population lives. That means half your income goes straight to rent if you were living on $27k a year.
That leaves you with approx $250 ($180 USD) a week for food and bills. I suppose if you only eat poverty meals then you could save up enough for a trip to the dentist once a year.

yes you dumbfuck, yes. it doesn't stop, like it never did, it will just accelerate, and probably culminate with some techbro moving their consciousness into AGI hardware or some AGI shit wiping all humans in the end. yes, you finally figured it out.
this is not a fucking choice you imbecile, it's mere reaction to the environment, on everyone's part. everyone will act in their best interest considering the state of things. that's fucking it

You know what would be better than UBI? Some form of government sponsored WFH work. You still would be wasting money but you would be wasting less and seeing an actual return on investment. I don't understand why they don't have like AI training jobs for old people now.

In the Bible, the parable of the wheat and the tares suggests that some people are put here by the enemy only to cause pain and take from good people. Weeds. They look like people, but they are fundamentally different. Funny thing: tares are also called "Darnel," which have poisonous seeds.

it looks like UBI worked and she wasn't bein a lazy nigger but instead used her money to get new certifications and grew her savings

Ubi is not possible in a society that allows foreign interlopers and hedge funds to financiallize and securitize the suburbs. It increases the cost of living in the area to beyond what any ubi could account for.
California for example has 60-70 non owner occupancy rates...
All our problems would be solved if we stop allowing SFRs for investment.

as long as there's a need for other's work, yeah. when they'll need less and less people for work that will change. of-course there will be a transition period, into the culling. start it too soon and you scare the ones you still need to work

Another example is a college professor, in order to live near the university or hospital, you have to make six figures. Meaning instead of tuition costing you 2500 per semester you are looking at 20k or whatever. Means the medical bills go up too, and because the metro areas are jam packed with illegals who don't pay their bills, there is further compounding of issues. Everything is fucked. Our country is being looted by foreign Interlopers at every level.
It's a full spectrum attack.
>>
Fuck all this bullshit. We need cob houses, horses, and food forests for ordinary folk, not digital surveillance and management of consumption. It ain't like you poop butt commies think it is. They want to manage a mutant slave race, not keep every FRN for themselves because ong they so greedy! It's not fair!
>>
>>534497510
retards don't understand what they are staring at on the horizon. AI/Robotics when reach a certain point will literally make 80% of population unemployed within a week. and what then? gov't is not even ready to implement UBI on large scale and from seeing how retarded our gov't are in regards to simplier issues we know it'll be years before they'll scrap together anything that resembles UBI, by then millions will starve but not before there will be mass caos everywhere, looting, raping, murdering. I feel like Black Plague events aren't what they told us it was, it was probably mass layoff due to advances in the industry. Stait of Hormuz closes for two weeks and Poojeets in India already starving and starting to kill each other.
>>
I don't get it. Why would she not be back working? $20k a year is fuck all. First UBI isn't supposed to be some path to investment and being rich so others have to work for you, second if it was $40k over 2 years isn't enough to put away enough passive income generating wealth (on average) to do so.

The UBI idea is that she's supposed to use her extra income to buy time to improve herself. If not learning a new skill, at least affording her the opportunity to look for and interview for a better paying job. Instead, Shaniqua likely spent her extra money on weaves and nails, and her free time playing with her phone.
>>
>>534498115
She's a teacher, which is already more than a nigger should be doing. Also no, UBI is not supposed to be some improvement program, it's literally in the name, basic income.

you do realize he knows how bad shit will get and is trying to passify everyone with these statement so you don't start to scramble/panic until it's too late and these "elites" are protected inside of robot operated cities guarded by AI lasers. these "elite" faggots worry if masses realize what's about to happen they will rape and murder them all slowly in their own mansions. if he was serious about his statement he would already be putting people on UBI that are too old to learn new careers like 50+ and whose job was recently terminated because it's not obsolete. on top of that, if these retards care, they would start putting young people on ubi that been out of college for few years and can't find a job to stimulate economy. if I don't have a job then I'm not buying your nike/iphone products which means shareholders aren't getting paid

nope, I've seen him talk about it back then, he autistically thought it can work out like that, he had a flower power moment/take.
but I guess in the meanwhile he did give it some thought and innevitably reached the "oh shit" conclusion and he shut the fuck up.
but indeed your masters are incentivized in telling everyone everything's going to be fine and everyone gonna have everything they want. I mean...what else?
>yeah we comin' for yo' asses start panicking
